是介于必然性与可能性之间的一种推测,说明说话人对客观事物的真实性做出教的可能性的判断。

她随时都可能来。
※可用在if引导的条件从句中,表示一件事听起来可能性很小,但也不是完全不可能,相当于“万一”的意思。
从句谓语用“should+动词原形”构成,主句不一定用虚拟语气

你万一见到汤姆,晴让他给我打个电话。
(2)ShouldIbefreetomorrow,Iwillcome.万一明天有时间,我就过来。
※“why/how+should”结构表示说话人对某事不能理解,感到意外、惊异等意思,意为“竟会”。

※表示“敢”之意。
作情态动词,主要用于疑问句、否定句、条件从句中,一般不用于肯定句中。
其疑问句及否定句的变化与其它情态动词相同。

※用作实义动词时,其问句及否定句的变化形式与一般动词相同。
在肯定句中,dare后通常接带to的不定式,在否定句和疑问句中,后面既可接带to的不定式,也可接不带to的不定式

用”MayI…”征询对方许可在文体上比较正式,在口气上比较客气,日常口语中,用“CanI….”征询对方意见更为常见

※表示可能性的推测,含有“或许,大概,可能”之意,用might代替may时,则语气显得更加不肯定。

※musthavedone表示对过去事情的肯定推测,意为“肯定,一定”,进用于肯定句

※may/mighthavedone用于肯定句和否定句,表示对已经发生的事情的推辞,相当于“可能,大概”。
结构还表虚拟,表示过去本可能发生的事但没有发生

Hemighthavegivenyoumorehelp,eventhoughhewasverybusy.
※should/oughttohavedone一般用于虚拟,肯定句表示过去美玉哦发生但却应该发生的事,意为“本应”;否定句表示过去发生了本不该发生的事,“本不该”

※can(not)havedone对过去(不)可能发生的事情进行推测,多用于否定句和疑问句
