Theresearchersfoundthatreplacingsittingtimewithexerciseandmovementwasassociatedwithabenefit,butreplacinglongperiodsofsittingwithshorterperiodsofsittingwasnot.

“Inourpreviouswork,wefoundthatifyoutakeabreakevery30minutes,itwillloweryourriskfromsitting,”Diazsaid,butthenewstudydidn'tshowthatinthedata.

“Wewentdeeperintothedatatotrytounderstandthatmore,andwhypeoplewhotookamovementevery30minuteshadalowerriskofdeath.It'sbecausetheyjusthadmore

opportunitytomove,”hesaid.
