YuHua,saltmanofZhejiang,wasborninZhejiang,Hangzhouin1960,andlatermovedtoHaiyanCountywithhisparents.Aftergraduatingfromhighschool,becauseoftherelationshipbetweenparentsfordoctors,YuHuaworkedasadentist,fiveyearslaterabandonedmedicalfromthetext,intothecountyculturalcenterandJiaxingFederationofliteraryandart,andfromthenonthecreationofabond.YuHuastudiedattheLuXunGraduateSchoolofArtsinBeijingandtheChineseDepartmentofBeijingNormaluniversity.YuHuabegantopublishnovelsin1984.HeisarepresentativeofChineseavant-gardenovels,andisonthesameparwithYeZhaoyanandSuTong.Thereareshortstories,"goingoutonthejourneyattheageofeighteen","smokeintheworld",andthenovel"living","cryinginthedrizzle"and"trembling".

YuHuasinceitsdebut"eighteenyearoldtravel"waspublished,thenoneafteranotherwithverystrongexperimentalworks,causedashockintheliteraryworldandbetweenreadersandattention,hehasbecometherepresentativeofChineseavant-gardenovels.

Asamatteroffact,YuHuaisnotaprolificwriter.Hisworks,includingshort,mediumandlong,adduptonomorethan80words.Heisknownforexquisite,mostoftheworkswritteninatrueandpurehard,finenarrative,breakthedailyorderoflanguage,withaself-containedsystemofdiscourse,andonthisbasis,buildupastrange,weird,occultandcruelisindependentoftheoutsideworldandtherealworldofthetextandtherealtext.YuHuaoncesaid:

"Ithinkallmyworksaretryingtobemoreclosetothereal.Thistruthofmineisnotthetruthoflife.Ithinklifeisactuallynottrue,lifeisakindofhalftruthsorfakethings."
