一、连词的用法及含义
1.when
(1)当…的时候
(2)那时,这时
bedoingsth.when…正在……这时突然……
beabouttodosth.when…//beonthepointofdoingsth.when…正要……这时突然……
had(just)donesth.when…刚做完……这时突然……
①Tomwasabouttoclosethewindowswhenhisattentionwascaughtbyabird.
②OneFriday,wewerepackingtoleaveforaweekendawaywhenmydaughterheardcriesforhelp.
③Shehadjustfinishedherhomeworkwhenhermotheraskedhertopracticeplayingthepianoyesterday.
(3)既然Howcanyouexpecttolearnanythingwhenyouneverlisten?
2.while
(1)当…的时候,在…期间Pleasedon’ttalksoloudwhileothersareworking.
(2)然而ThecostoflivinginGlasgowisamongthelowestinBritain,whilethequality
oflifeisprobablyoneofthehighest.
(3)尽管WhileIreallydon’tlikeart,Ifindhisworkimpressive.
(4)趁着Ishouldsellthecarwhileitcanstillrun.
【注意】
①while引导时间状语从句时,从句须使用延续性动词。
②while作为并列连词,意为“而,却”,表示对比,须放在句中。
③while可表示尽管,引导让步状语从句,须放在句首。
3.as
(1)一边……,一边……(引导时间状语从句,强调两个动作的交替或同时发生);随着
Thecrowdstartedcheeringasherosetospeak.
Astimegoeson(=Withtimegoingon),it’sgettingwarmerandwarmer.
(2)虽然,尽管(引导让步状语从句,从句必须倒装)
①Strangeasitmightsound,hisideawasacceptedbyallthepeopleatthemeeting.
②Tryashemay,heneverseemsabletodotheworkbeautifully.
(3)由于(引导原因状语从句,用于主句前或后,指双方都知道的原因)
(4)按照…的方式(引导方式状语从句)
Doasyouaretoldto,oryou’llbefired.
(5)和……一样as...as…(引导比较状语从句)
①Theworkisnotso/asdifficultasyouimagine.
②Itisgenerallybelievedthatteachingisasmuchanartasitisascience.
人们普遍认为,教学是一门科学,同时也是一门艺术。

(1)表示“一……就……”的连词:
assoonas,immediately,directly,instantly,themoment,theminute,theinstant

(2)表示“刚刚…就…”的句型:
Hardly/scarcely/Barely…when…//Nosooner…than…

5.everytime,eachtime,nexttime,thefirsttime等名词短语用来引导时间状语从句,表示:
每当,每次,下一次,第一次等。
Every/eachtimeIwasintrouble,hewouldcometohelpme.
Nexttimeyoucome,doremembertobringyoursonhere.
比较:
thefirsttime/forthefirsttime
①IknewwewouldbegoodfriendsthefirsttimeImether.
②ForthefirsttimeinherlifeJenniegainedaclearideaofhowlargetheworldis.
6.till,until和not…until用法
(1)until/till主句的动词是延续性动词,表示动作或状态一直持续到until/till所表示的时间,意为“某
动作一直延续到某时间点才停止。
如:
Itisdifficultforustolearnalessoninlifeuntilweactuallyhadthatlesson.
(2)not…until主句的动词是非延续性动词,意为“某动作直到某时间才开始”。
如:
Hewon’tgotobedtill/untilshereturns.
(3)not…until句型中的强调和倒装
①Notuntilhelefthishomedidhebegintoknowhowimportantthefamilywasforhim.
②Itwasn’tuntilwehadstayedtogetherforacoupleofweeksthatIfoundwehadalotincommon.
7.before/since
(1)注意下列句子中before的含义
①Wehadsailedfourdaysandfournightsbeforewesawland.才
②Wehadn’trunamilebeforehefelttired.还未…就…;不到…就…
③BeforeIcouldgetinaword,hehadrushedout.还没来得及…就…
(2)since
①自从…以来(从句用一般过去时,主句用现在完成时或现在完成进行时)
②既然,由于,因为
(3)易混句型
Itwill(not)be+时间段+before…(不用)要过多久才……”
Itwas(not)+时间段+before…(没过)过了多久就……”
Itis/was+时间点+when…当某事发生时当时是…
Itwas+时间状语+that…强调句型
Itis/hasbeen+时间段+since…
【注意】在Itis+时间段+since…句型中,其句意取决于从句谓语动词是否是延续性动词
翻译:
Itisthreeyearssincethewarbrokeout.自战争爆发以来已经有三年了。
ItisthreeyearssinceIsmokedacigar.我已经三年不抽烟了。
8.if,unless,suppose,supposing,providing,provided,so(as)longas,onconditionthat,incase等引导条件状语从句。
(1)suppose,supposing,providing,provided假使;如果
Suppose/supposing(that)theyrefuseus,whoelsecanweturntoforhelp?
(2)as(so)longas只要…就…
(3)onconditionthat条件是
(4)incase万一,假如;以防Incasethereisafire,whatwillwedofirst?
9.though,although,eventhough,evenif,nomatterwh-,whatever,whoever,whichever,whenever,however等引导让步状语从句。
(1)though与although一般可互换,都可以与yet,still或nevertheless连用,但though引导的从句可倒装可不倒装,而although不可倒装。
(2)区分whatever/however
Howeverhardyoutry,itisdifficulttoloseweightwithoutcuttingdowntheamountyoueat.
Dowhatyouthinkisrightwhateverdifficultiesyoumayhave.
(3)区分nomatter+疑问词和疑问词+ever
Whoeverleavestheroomlastshouldremembertoturnoffthelight.
【注意】whatever,whoever,whichever,whomever还可引导名词性从句,注意以下几组词的区别:
(1)whatever/whichever
Variousstylesofclothesareprovidedhereinourshopandyouarefreetochoosewhicheversuitsyoubest.
(2)whoever/whomever/anyone
①Hewillgivethejobtowhoeverhethinksisequaltoit.
②Themanagerwillgivethejobtoanyonehavingcapabilityandresponsibilityforit.
③Accordingtotherule,anyonecaughtcheatingintheexamshallbepunishedseverely.
(3)whoever/who
----WhichcanItake,Mr.Smith?
----Takewhicheveroneyoulikeandleavetheothersforwhoevercomeslate.
10.where
(1)where/wherever引导的地点状语从句,指具体地点时,从句可用于主句之前或之后,表示抽象条件时,从句须放在主句之前。
例如:
Wherethereisawill,thereisaway.
Theuniversitygraduatesaredeterminedtogowheretheyareneededmost.
(2)注意区分where引导的定语从句与状语从句。
你最好在有问题的地方作个标记。

11.sothat,inorderthat,forfearthat,incase,so…that,such…that
(1)sothat,inorderthat以便……、为了……。
从句中常用情态动词may,might,can,could等。
(2)forfearthat担心,害怕
Marydidn’twanttogetoutofbed,forfearthatshemightwakeherbabyup.
(3)incase以防Takeyourraincoatincaseitrains.
(4)so…that,sothat或such…that;引导结果状语从句注意以下结构:
so+adj./adv.+that从句
so+adj.+a/an+可数单数+that从句
somany/much/few/little(少)+名词+that从句
such+a/an+adj.+可数单数+that从句
such+adj.+可数复数/不可数+that从句
