TheteambeganitsresearchinthesouthernCaribbean.Theyconcentratedtheirobservationsonpopulationslocatedintwoindependentrivers.Ineach,theycollectedmaleguppieslivingaboveandbelowthewaterfalls.Asmallamountofpredatorslivedinthewatersabovethewaterfall,thereforethelocalguppypopulationhadevolved（进化）underpredation-poorconditionsintoapredation-poorpopulation.
