  Theretiredelderlypeopleareoftenlabeledasbeingoverlyfinanciallydependent.Bethisasitmay,it’sstillregardedtheprimaryresponsibilitiesofthegovernmenttotakecareoftheretiredinconsiderationoftheirimmensecontributiontooursocietybeforetheyreachtheretirementage.Oncetheyleavetheirjobstorelishtheterminalstageoftheirlifeduetotheirphysicalinferiority,thegovernmentshould,beyondanydoubt,assumetheobligationtolookaftertheminreturnfortheircontributions.Besides,thechildrenoftheretiredarealsoexpectedtosharetheburdenoftakingcareoftheirparentsasameansofpayingtheirduefilialpiety.

  Somepeoplemightarguethattheelderlypeoplearegraduallyexhaustingalargeamountofsocialfund,posingaseriousthreattotheeconomicdevelopmentandsignificantlyundermininganypotentialendeavortobemountedinotherareas.Apparently,thiscouldhardlybejustified.Thewell-beingoftheretiredpeopleisasimportantasanyotherissuesconfrontinganygovernment.Theyareasmuchentitledtosocialwelfareasanyothergroupsofpeople.

  Tosumup,therearestillmanywaystohelppeoplewhohaveretiredtoliveabetterlifebesidesaskingthemtosavemoney.Aslongasboththegovernmentandyoungergenerationshouldertheirshareofresponsibilities,thelivesoftheretiredaswellasthesocietywouldbemuchbetteroff.

  It’sreportedthatthenutritioninsomeareasissopoorthatmanybabiesdon’tsurvivepastthefirstyearandthatlifeexpectancyislessthan50years.Inthiskindofsituation,surelylivingpeoplearehigherprioritythaninanimatestatues.Itseemstomethatthegovernmentcaresmoreaboutappearances,havingcitieslookimpressive,thanthelivesofpeople.Themoneythatisspentonpublicartprojectsshouldbestoppedanddivertedtohumanitarianprojects,education,agricultureetc.

  Somepeoplewillassertthatartisimportantinsociety,andIagree,itis.Therewillalwaysbeartists.Myargumentisthatinadevelopingcountrywehavetopayattentiontothebasicsfirst.TheissuehereiswhetherpublicmoneyshouldbespentonartandIdon’tthinkitshould,notwhenpeopleareliving(anddying)inpoorconditions.

  Ibelievethatthegovernmenthasaresponsibilitytoprovideforthebasicneedsofpeoplebeforeitfinancesdecorativeartprojects.

  Privatecarsarebeinganincreasinglyindispensiblepartofourlife.Mostpeopleknowthatdrivingprivatecarsplaceaseverestrainoncities’trafficandair-qualitylevels.However,veryfewarewillingtogiveupdrivingandusepublictransportinstead.

  Tosomepeople,havingacarincreasestheirsocialposition.Owningacarespeciallyanexpensiveoneisasignoftheirwealthorhighsocialstatues.Consequently,theyrefusetousepublictransportbecausetheyfeelthatsqueezingintoanovercrowdedtrainorbusinrushhoursisonlyforpeoplewithlimitedmeans.

  Anotherreasonforthisisthattomanypeople,aprivatecaroffersasenseoffreedomandmobility.Forexample,theycandrivetheircartoanysupermarketinthecityandreturnhomewithabootfullofgroceries.Also,theycandrivehomefromworklateatnightwhileothersareanxiouslywaitingforpublictransport.

  Thereare,however,measuresthegovernmentcouldtaketoencouragetheuseofpublictransport.Thefirstactioncouldbetoimprovetheservice,likeensuringtrainsarepunctual,installingmorefortableseatsinwaitingareasandprovidingadditionalbusroutes.Furthermore,loweringfareswouldalsobeaveryeffectivewayofencouragingpeopletousethesystem.Finally,thegovernmentcouldeducatepeopleaboutthedevastatingimpactofvehicleemissionontheenvironmentsotheywouldbelesslikelytodrive.

  Toconclude,governmentsshouldtaketheaboveactiontomakepeoplerealizetakingpublictransportisamuchcheaper,morefortableandmoreenvironmentally-friendlyoptionthandrivingtheirowncar.

  Anumberofpossiblesolutionhavebeenputforwardbythegovernmentandhaveprovedquiteeffective.Inmanycountries,forexample,thegovernmentisbuildingsatellitetownsaroundthecitytoabsorbtheurbanpopulationandtheirhousingdemand.Apartfromthis,somegovernmentshaveestablishedpreferentialpoliciestopromotetheconstructionofhigh-riseapartmentbuildingsbecausetheymeetthedemandformoreeconomicaluseofland.
