InLondonVanGoghfacedhisfirstmajorcrisis,whenhewasrejectedinlove.Afterthat,heturnedtoreligion,expresseddisapprovalwithart-dealingandneglectedhiswork.GroupiltransferredhimfromLondontoParisbut,whenhisworkwasstillunsatisfactory,dismissedhimin1876.

TheyoungVanGoghmadereligionaconsuminginterestandduringthenextfewyearstravelledinBritain,BelgiumandHolland,tryingtoestablishhimselfasapreacher（传道人）,butwithoutsuccess.

In1886VanGoghleftHollandforeverandtravelledviaAntwerptoParis,andtomajorchangesinartisticstyle.VanGogh’sworkbecamemoreyouthfulinParis.Helivedwithhisbrother,Theo,whomanagedthemoderndepartmentofanartdealer’s.Anew,moreanimated,paintingstyleemergedandtheimpressionisttendenciesofearlierworkweakenedsomewhat.

VanGoghdevelopedatasteforpersonalizedbrushworkandbrilliant,unmixedcolors.Amonghismostprominentexperimentswithcolorwereaseriesofsome30flowerpaintings,afascinationwhichstayedwithhimuntilhisdeath.
