AUDITIONPROCESS

2010-2011

I.StudentEligibilityRequirements

1.Theserequirementsapplytoallpublic,privateandhomeschoolparticipants.

2.Astudentmustbeenrolledasafull-timestudent（asdefinedbyruleoftheStateBoardofEducation）inaTexasschoolduringthe

semesterinwhichtheTMEAactivitytakesplace.Ifanauditiontakesplaceinonesemesterandtheresultantconcertorclinictakes

placeinanother,thenthestudentmustbeenrolledasafull-timestudentduringbothsemesters.

3.Onlyfull-timestudentsenrolledgrades9–12mayparticipateatArealevelauditions（Band,Orchestra,ChoirandJazzEnsemble）.

4.AllTMEAactivitiesareextracurricular.InordertoparticipateinTMEAactivities,astudentmustbepassingthenumberofcourses

requiredbystatelawandbyrulesoftheStateBoardofEducation.Thestudentmusthavebeeninattendanceandhavepassedthe

numberofcoursesrequiredbytheUniversityInterscholasticLeagueforextracurricularparticipation.Theyearinwhichastudentfirst

enrollsingradenineisthestudent’sfirstyearinhighschool.（SeeEligibilityRequirementsforTMEAActivitiesformorespecificinformation.）

5.AstudentmustbecertifiedbyhisTMEAActiveMemberdirectorasaviablememberoftheschool’sparentorganizationduringthe

semesterinwhichtheTMEAactivityisheld.Ifthereisnoparentmusicalgroupintheschool,thestudentmustbecertifiedbya

TMEAmembersponsor.ThissponsormustholdanActiveMembershipinTMEAandmusthavebeendesignatedasasponsorby

thechiefadministratoroftheschoolthestudentattends.

6.AstudentshallcompeteintheRegioninwhichheiscurrentlyreceivingthemajorityofhiseducationalinstructiontomeetgraduation

requirements.

7.Astudentmaynotparticipateaftertheendoftheeighthsemesterfollowinghisfirstenrollmentintheninthgrade.Theeight

semestersorfouryearrulemaybewaivedundercertaincircumstances.

8.ChangingschoolswithinthestateafteracceptanceatanyleveloftheAll-Stateselectionprocesswillnotaffecteligibilityforfurther

competition.（SeeEligibilityRequirementsforTMEAActivitiesformorespecificinformation.）

II.Region/AreaAlignmentandSchoolClassifications

1.OnlystudentsenrolledinRegion16publicschoolsmayparticipateinRegion16auditions.

2.StudentsinprivateschoolsmayentertheauditionprocessinRegion16iftheirprivateschoolislocatedinapublicschoolISDwhich

isapartofRegion16.AprivateschoolstudentshallcompeteinthecomparableUILclassificationaccordingtotheenrollmentofthe

school.

3.StudentsrepresentinghomeschoolsmayentertheauditionprocessinRegion16iftheirhomeislocatedinapublicschoolISD

whichisapartofRegion16.Homeschoolclassificationisconsideredtobethesameasthepublichighschoolinwhichboundary

theyreside.Ahomeschoolstudentmustminimallyrepresentthisclassification.

III.All-StateOrganizations

1.TheTMEAMixedChoir,Women’sChoirandMen’sChoir

a.Opentostudentsinallclassifications

b.EachregioncertifiescandidatestotheAreaauditions.

c.Astudentmaybeselectedtoadvancetoareainbothwind/percussionandchoirbutmayonlyparticipateinoneArea

audition.Thestudentmustdeclare（bymeansoftheAreaDeclarationForm）byDecember15thedivisioninwhich

he/shewillparticipate.

d.Throughouttheauditionprocess,onlywomenshallauditionfortheSopranoandAltosections,andonlymenshallaudition

fortheTenorandBasssections.

IV.EntryProcedures

1.EntryforallTMEAauditionsisconductedthroughtheTMEAwebsite-www.tmea.org.Directors/SponsorsenteringstudentsinaTMEADistrict,Region,Area,orAll-StateauditionmustusetheTMEAonlineauditionentrysystem,www.tmea.org.RefertotheTMEAAuditionProcessOnlineEntryinstructionsforspecificdetails.TheDistrictAuditionEntryFeeinRegion16is$15.00perentryplusa$25.00schoolfee.TheRegionAuditionEntryFeeis$10perstudent,andthePre-Areafeeis$5.00perstudent.Therewillbea$7.00feetobepaidbyAreaCandidatesattheconclusionofthePre-AreaAuditions.Thereisa$15feepaidbyallmembersoftheAll-StateChoirs,payableattheendoftheAreaAuditions.

2.EachMSandHSRegionVocalDivisionmusthaveanelectroniccopyoftheirproceduresandguidelinesonfilewiththeTMEAofficebeforetheonlineauditionentrysystemwillbemadeavailabletotheirrespectiveDivision.EachRegionDivisionChairshallbethecustodianoftheonlineauditionentrysystemforallauditionsfortheirRegion’sDivision.

3.TMEAActiveMembershipisrequiredtoenter/sponsorstudentsinTMEAauditions.

4.TheTMEAActiveMembersponsormustbeinattendanceandbeavailabletoserveasanauditionsstaffmemberforanyandall

activitiesinwhichtheirstudentsareinvolved.Additionally,Region16requiresthatAssistantChoirDirectorsalsobeinattendance

andbeavailabletoserveasanauditionsstaffmemberforanyandallactivitiesinwhichtheirstudentsareinvolved.

5.WhenenteringstudentsintheauditionprocessTheTMEAActiveMembersponsormustprovideproofofTMEAmembershipandsubmittheAuditionProcessEntryformwiththeDirector’sStatementofResponsibilitysignedanddatedbytheendofregistrationattheRegionAuditionormailedtotheRegionChairwithentryfees.

a.IhavereadtheEligibilityRequirementsforTMEAActivitiesandagreetoabidebyalltherulesandregulations

setforthbytheTexasMusicEducatorsAssociationwithrespecttoallauditionsandevents.

b.IhaveinformedthestudentsenteredoftheauditionprocessandrequirementsforAll-RegionandAll-State.They

understandthatiftheyarecertifiedforAreaintheorchestrawinds/percussion,band,orchoir,（andacceptthat

assignment）,theymaynotadvancetoareathroughanyotherdivision.

*StudentsneedingtoleaveearlyfromtheRegionauditionorPre-AreaauditionmusthavetheRegion16TravelRelease

formonfilewiththeRegionChair.ThisformmayeitherbemailedtotheRegionChairorhandtotheRegionChaironthe

auditionday.

6.Allcontestdeadlineswillbe14dayspriortothedayoftheaudition.

7.Thelateandfinalonlineentrydeadlinewillbesevendayspriortothedayoftheaudition.

8.Correctiontoanexistingstudententrymaybemadebetween13and7dayspriortothecontestwithoutpenalty,butastudententryaddedlessthan14butmorethansevendayspriortothecontestwillresultinanadditional100%studentlatefee.

9.Entriesbegunlessthan14,butmorethansevendayspriortothecontestwillbeassesseda50%additionalcampusfeechargeand100%studentfeecharge.

10.AcampusentrycreatedlessthanfourteendayspriortothecontestwillbesubjecttotheTMEAGrievanceProcess

11.Directorswillbeallowedtoaddorchangestudententriesthedayoftheaudition.The50%additionalcampusand100%additionalstudentlatefeeswillbeassessed.

12.Allfeesmustbepaidorsupportedbyaschoolpurchaseorderpriortothestartofauditions.

13.DualCertificationallowsstudentstoqualifyforAreaauditionsinmorethanonedivisionandthenchoosetheoneinwhichto

audition.Thefollowingprocessistobeusedforthosedesiringdualcertification.

a.Eachdirectormarksthestudentswhowishtoauditioninmorethanonedivisionontheweb-basedentrydocumentwhich

issubmittedtotheRegionChairviatheOfficialEntryDocument.

b.TheRegion16VocalChaircompilesamasterlistfromtheweb-basedentriesofallstudentswhowishtoauditionin

anotherdivisionandsends（faxes）ittotheRegion16President.FollowingthefinalauditionforAreacertification,the

Region16VocalChairwillsendthelistofAreacandidates（andalternates）totheRegion16PresidentandtheAreaChair.

c.TheRegion16Presidentcompilesamasterlistofallstudents（inalldivisions）whowishtoauditioninmultipledivisions.

TheRegion16PresidentwillthencontactanystudentswhoqualifyforAreainmorethanonedivisionandsendtheman

AreaDeclarationForm.TheRegion16PresidentthensendsthosenamestotheTMEAstateoffice.

d.ThestudentmustcompletetheAreaDeclarationForm（foundonTMEAwebsite）whichmustalsobesignedbyaparentor

guardian,andbothdivisionaldirectorsofthatstudentandthensend（fax）byDecember15totheRegion16Presidentin

orderthatthealternatemaybenotified.TheRegion16PresidentshallforwardallDecl
