套词

套词，说白了其实就是联系教授。

通过email与教授进行互动式的沟通，增进彼此了解，套词在很大程度上弥补了申请者被动接受审核的不利因素，从而提高了申请者被成功录取的机会。

可以说，套词已经成为申请过程中的重要一环，并且在申请的各个阶段联系教授都会有一定的作用，无论如何你都会获得很多有效信息。

一、套词信的结构内容

1、 称呼

这样开头:

DearProf.XXX （ 姓）

如果他的签名档中间没有逗号，后面是姓，前面是名；如果有逗号，逗号前面的是姓，后面是名。

一般来说称呼 PROFESSOR 姓 ，这样比较常用。

千万别用DearSir（ordearmadam,dearprofessor）, 而如果要用DearSirorMadam 你就死定了！

2、 主题

三个主题。

第一，较为详细的介绍你自己的背景。

第二，就教授的研究兴趣、领域、及课题进行讨论或请教。

第三，表示你对教授研究的强烈兴趣。

还可以酌情加上第四个，询问openposition 的可能性。

3、  附件

一般最好附上自己的简历，但注意不要以WORD附件的形式，可以转换成PDF格式，或者直接贴在信的内容中。

二、套词需要注意的问题

1、套词条件

1）如果T，G，GPA均很高，且有牛PAPER，那你就没有什么必要套词，除非你要去牛校。

2）如果你的分数比较低，但你具有一定的研究经历，那最好套词。

3）什么都不行，窃以为最好还是不套，可能越套越杂，就会完全暴露自己的弱点。

2、  套词时间

1）根据以往经验，比较好的联系时机是在申请材料到手以后,大概在9,10月份左右. 因为有时申请材料上就有教授的e-mail地址,不必再到学校的网址上去找。

即使材料上并没有教授的地址,如果有教授名单,也有助于迅速在网址上查到感兴趣的教授的地址.另外，这时套词周旋时间也不是很长，因为很可能几封信过后你就无话可说了。

也有人从与探讨问题入手套教授的,但需要有足够的精力和实力与足够多的教授周旋。

2）也可以更早一些准备，比如在未要申请材料之前，根据自己的专业方向，向所有拥有该专业并能给予研究生教育的学校的教授或实验室发出套词信，然后只申请那些给予肯定回复的学校。

这种情况下前期花费精力比较多，但后期的成功率将是比较高的，而且申请费也不会花得很冤枉。

3）此外，套词多发生在两个阶段，即寄走材料以后和只来了ADMISSION的时候，此时高超的套词艺术往往可以带来意想不到的效果。

三、套词技巧

1、细节问题

（1）   对教授的每封信都要及时回复，充满热情；

（2）   及时汇报自己的科研或学习的进展情况；

（3）   与教授交流对当前自己专业领域出现的新的学术理论或文章的看法和意见，尤其是与该教授密切相关的领域；

（4）   告诉近来发生在中国或是自己身上的趣事（政治，宗教除外）；

（5）   告诉教授自己的申请状态，即从研究生院或系里得到的最新通知；

（6）   在比较重要的美国节日之际，给教授发去衷心的祝福；

（7）   保持经常联系, 但信件往来频率要合理，即每封信都要保证能够提供教授一些新的或有趣的信息，而不是那些陈词滥调；

（8）   内容简洁，注意礼节，个性化；

（9）   内容得体，不能显得急于把自己给卖了，而且过早地表忠心也让对方觉得你轻率，也不太礼貌，最要命的是你已经丧失了先机。

第一封信倒不如简明扼要，切中主题；

（10）  一所学校最好先套一个，有的会把其他人介绍给你，若他不理你，你再接茬套别人；

（11）  为表达兴趣，可以索要paper，当然前提是自己有一定实力；

（12）  千万不要遍地撒网，要确定了一定的方向后再有针对性的套；

（13）  注意信件文笔,不妨精心雕琢,切莫随意应付,一旦有错,悔之晚矣；

2、如何找教授

1）最好找到正研究你这篇论文的课题的教授。

2）可以这样：

作论文时记下你所感兴趣的文献作者，特别是你想去的大学里的，然后进该大学主页查得他的e-mail, 再发信讨论问题。

有时候对进大学未必有用，但对作论文肯定是有好处的。

然后在适当时机提出申请要求，可能性就极大。

因此大家做论文是别忘了联系作者。

美国教授对这种事情很热情的。

3）最起码也要保证研究方向接近，否则纯粹是浪费时间精力。

4）注意联系那些拥有科研项目比较多而且比较大型的教授，这样教授往往资金雄厚，RA的机会自然要大一些。

5）据前辈经验， 三种人不宜选作老板。

A、中国人 

B、女 

C、 AssistantProfessor 

如果你的老板占了其中两项以上，那你就惨了。

3、  商学院的特殊性

1）商学院的教授不会单独招人，没有说跟谁一起作，看谁有钱有项目的说法，商学院的都是一个系的招生委员会一起来作决定，所以不要寄希望于陶瓷拿到OFFER。

2）了解现在教授的兴趣所在。

商学院教授的兴趣可能在变，这样可以了解到最新的兴趣 

3）了解是否可以免申请费，面官方成绩，什么时候作决定，谁是招生委员会的等 

4）索要paper，作为写PS的素材 

5）加深自己给该教授的印象，使他在审查材料的时候，你的名字能standout 

总之，申请商学院是个系统工程，不要指望一口吃个胖子，得慢慢来，慢满的放松，慢慢的积累，功到自然成，不要掉以轻心，不管你背景多牛。

当然更不用广种博收，而是要重点突击，这样既省时省力，省钱，以后还不用为选校费心。

4、  套词回信总结

1）套歪了的回信：

2） 干脆的据了你的：

原因一：

不感兴趣：

原因二：

不缺学生：

Thanksforyourinterestinourgraduateprogram.Unfortunatelyrightnow,Iamnotlookingfornewgraduatestudentsformyprojects. 

原因三：

没时间理你（就是说算了吧，你不够格） 

Mysummerscheduleis:

还有，好一些的。

3）模棱两可的回信，属于不见兔子不撒鹰的教授：

还有：

比较客气一些的：

4）对你感兴趣的：

看来能让鬼子感兴趣的前提是他缺学生，否则再牛也白扯。

四、套词信的模版

首先声明：

以下几个模版切勿简单地拷贝粘贴使用，这样会造成N多副本，于人于己都不利。

正确的使用态度应该是从内容、方式上仔细深入研究模版，经过大幅度整容后方能使用。
