Thefollowingyear,theCrimeanWar(克里米亚战争)brokeout.Florenceled38nursesandtraveledtoScutaritohelpthewoundedsoldiers.Whentheyarrivedtheretheyfoundthehospitalconditionswereverypoor.Manyofthewoundeddidnothavebedsandwerelyingontheground.Florenceandhernursesmanagedtoimprovethecondition

s.Florencealsocaredaboutthesocialwelfareofthesoldiersandwouldvisitthemduringthenightafterevery-oneelsehadgonetosleep.Shewasreferredtoas"TheLadywiththeLamp".
