IalsowanttospeaktoyouaboutanissueofgreatsignificancetomeasaFirstLady,andmoreimportantly,asthemotheroftwoyoungdaughters.
Likemillionsofpeopleacrosstheglobe,myhusbandandIareoutragedandheartbrokenoverthekidnappingofmorethan200Nigeriangirlsfromtheirschooldormitoryinthemiddleofthenight.
Thisunconscionableactwascommittedbyaterroristgroupdeterminedtokeepthesegirlsfromgettinganeducation–grownmenattemptingtosnuffouttheaspirationsofyounggirls.
AndIwantyoutoknowthatBarackhasdirectedourgovernmenttodoeverythingpossibletosupporttheNigeriangovernment’seffortstofindthesegirlsandbringthemhome.

Manyofthemmayhavebeenhesitanttosendtheirdaughtersofftoschool,fearingthatharmmightcometheirway.
Buttheytookthatriskbecausetheybelievedintheirdaughters’promiseandwantedtogivethemeveryopportunitytosucceed.
Thegirlsthemselvesalsoknewfullwellthedangerstheymightencounter.
Theirschoolhadrecentlybeenclosedduetoterroristthreats?
butthesegirlsstillinsistedonreturningtotaketheirexams.

ButfortunatelyMalalasurvived?
andwhenImetherlastyear,Icouldfeelherpassionanddeterminationasshetoldmethatgirls’educationisstillherlife’smission.

Weakness,fearandhopelessnessdied.Strength,powerandcouragewasborn.”
ThecourageandhopeembodiedbyMalalaandgirlslikeheraroundtheworldshouldserveasacalltoaction.
Becauserightnow,morethan65milliongirlsworldwidearenotinschool.
Yet,weknowthatgirlswhoareeducatedmakehigherwages,leadhealthierlives,andhavehealthierfamilies.
Andwhenmoregirlsattendsecondaryschool,thatbooststheircountry’sentireeconomy.
Soeducationistrulyagirl’sbestchanceforabrightfuture,notjustforherself,butforherfamilyandhernation.
Andthat’struerighthereintheU.S.aswell?
soIhopethestoryoftheseNigeriangirlswillserveasaninspirationforeverygirl–andboy–inthiscountry.

所以教育的确是女孩拥有光明未来的最好机会，不仅是对她自己，也是对她的家庭和国家。

所以我希望这些尼日利亚女孩的故事能激励我们国家的每个女孩和每个男孩。

Sotoday,letusallprayfortheirsafereturn...letusholdtheirfamiliesinourheartsduringthisverydifficulttime?
andletusshowjustafractionoftheircourageinfightingtogiveeverygirlonthisplanettheeducationthatisherbirthright.Thankyou.
