1AudreyHepburn

AudreyHepburn（1929-1993）wasaslender,stylishmotionpictureactressknownforherradiantbeauty,herabilitytoprojectanairofsophisticationtemperedbyacharminginnocence,andhertirelesseffortstoaidneedychildren.

AlthoughborninBelgium,HepburnhadBritishcitizenshipthroughherfatherandattendedschoolinEnglandasachild.In1939,however,attheonsetofWorldWarII,hermother（Hepburn’sfatherleftthefamilywhenshewassixyearsold）movedthechildtotheNetherlands（wheretheauthorofthistextmistakenlyconsideredHepburnwasborn）,thinkingtheneutralcountrysaferthanEngland.ThroughoutWorldWarII,HepburnenduredhardshipsinNazi-occupiedHolland.Shestillmanaged,however,toattendschoolandtakeballetlessons.Afterthewar,shecontinuedtostudyballetinAmsterdamandinLondon.Duringherearly20s,shestudiedactingandworkedasamodelanddancer.AfterappearinginseveralBritishfilmsandstarringinthe1951BroadwayplayGigi（《琪琪》）,HepburngainedinstantHollywoodstardomforplayingtheAcademyAward-winningleadroleinRomanHoliday.SheremainsoneoffewentertainerswhohavewonAcademy,Emmy,Grammy,andTonyAwards.

Hepburn’swar-timestrugglesinspiredherpassionforhumanitarianwork.ShedevotedmuchofherlaterlifetoUNICEF,visitingfamine-strickenvillages,inLatinAmerica,Africa,untilshortlybeforeherdeathofcancerin1993.ShewasawardedthePresidentialMedalofFreedominrecognitionofherworkasaUNICEFGoodwillAmbassadorin1992.

2UNICEF

UNICEF（UnitedNationsInternationalChildren’sEmergencyFund）wascreatedbytheUnitedNationsGeneralAssemblyonDecember11,1946,toprovideemergencyfoodandhealthcaretochildrenincountriesthathadbeendevastatedbyWorldWarII.After1950thefunddirecteditseffortstowardgeneralprogramsfortheimprovementofchildren’swelfare,particularlyinless-developedcountriesandinvariousemergencysituations.Theorganization’sbroadermissionwasreflectedinthenameitadoptedin1953,theUnitedNationsChildren’sFund,butithascontinuedtobeknownbythepopularacronymbasedonthisoldname.HeadquarteredinNewYorkCity,UNICEFprovideslong-termhumanitariananddevelopmentalassistancetochildrenandmothersindevelopingcountries.UNICEF’sprogramsemphasizedevelopingcommunity-levelservicestopromotethehealthandwell-beingofchildren.

3UNICEFAmbassadorofGoodwill

Manycelebritieshaveactedasinternational,regionalornationalambassadors,dependingontheirprofile,interests,anddesiredlevelofresponsibility.TheroleofGoodwillAmbassadorallowscelebritieswithademonstratedinterestinUNICEFissuestousetheirfametodrawattentiontoimportantissues.Thismaytaketheformofpublicappearancesandtalks,visitstotroubledregions,anduseoftheirpoliticalaccesstoadvocateUNICEFcauses,allofwhichhavethepowertodrawattentionfromthemediaandtocreatepublicawareness.

4GregoryPeck

GregoryPeck（1916-2003）wasoneoftheworld’smostpopularfilmstarsfromthe1940stothe1960s.Heisbestknownforhisperformanceinthe1962filmToKillaMockingbird,whichearnedhimtheAcademyAwardforBestActor.

In1967PeckreceivedtheAcademy’sJeanHersholtHumanitarianAward.Hewasalsoin1969forhislifetimehumanitarianeffort.Alwayspoliticallyprogressive,Peckwasactiveinsuchcausesasanti-warprotests,workers’rightsandcivilrights.

5BillyWilder

BillyWilder（1906-2002）wasanAustrian-bornAmericanfilmmaker,screenwriter,producerartist,andjournalist.Hiscareerspannedmorethan50yearsand60films.HeisregardedasoneofthemostbrilliantandversatilefilmmakersofHollywood’sgoldenage.Duringhiscareer,Wildergained20AcademyAwardnominationsandwonsixOscars.HereceivedalifetimeachievementawardfromtheAmericanFilmInstitutein1986.

6AcademyAwards

AnAcademyAward（bynameOscar）isanawardpresentedannuallybytheAmericanAcademyofMotionPictureArtsandSciencetorecognizeexcellenceofprofessionalsinthefilmindustry,includingdirectors,actors,andwriters.Theawardceremonyisoneofthemostprominentawardceremoniesintheworld,andistelevisedliveinmorethan200countriesannually.

7HubertdeGivenchy

HubertdeGivenchy（1927-,）isaFrencharistocratandfashiondesignerwhofounderTheHouseofGivenchyin1952.HeisfamousforhavingdesignedmuchofthepersonalandprofessionalwardrobeofAudreyHepburn,aswellasclothingforclientssuchasJacquelineKennedy.HewasnamedtotheInternationalBestDressListHallofFamein1970.
