Studyingalanguageinacountrywhereitiswidelyspokenhasmanyadvantages.Itis,therefore,agoodideatostudyEnglishinsuchcountriesasUS,EnglandandAustralia.However,Idonotbelieveittobetheonlywaytolearnthelanguage.

Inthefirstplace,moststudentsinnon-English-speakingcountrieslearnEnglishathighschool,andsometimesatuniversitynowadays.AlthoughtheirspokenEnglishdoesnotusuallyreachaveryhighlevel,theirknowledgeofgrammarisoftenquiteadvanced.Thisiscertainlyusefulwhenthestudentsfurtherimprovetheircomprehensiveproficiency.

Secondly,studyingthebasicsofEnglishatsecondaryschoolislessstressfulthanlearningthelanguageinforeigncountries.Thisisbecausestudentslivingathomedonothaveworriesaboutproblemssuchasfindingaccommodation,payingfortheirstudyandlivingcosts,andtryingtosurviveinaforeigncountrywheredaytodaylivingcausesmuchstress.

However,thereareobviousadvantagestolearningEnglishinEnglish-speakingcountries.Everydaythereareopportunitiestopracticelisteningandspeaking.Also,studentscanexperiencetheculturefirsthand,whichisagreathelpwhentryingtounderstandthelanguage.Thisisespeciallytrueiftheychoosetolivewithnatives,aspartofhome-stayfamily,forexample.Furthermore,ifstudents’speakingandlisteningskillsimprove,attentioncanbegiventodevelopingreadingandwritingskillaswell.

Ingeneral,eventhoughitispreferabletostudyEnglishinanEnglish-speakingcountry,areasonablelevelofEnglishcanstillbeachievedinone’sowncountry,ifastudentisgiftedanddedicatedtostudy.

Nucleartechnologyisevenusedtohelpcuresomefataldiseasessuchascancer.Radiationcanbeappliedtothebodytoburnawaycancerouscells,eventhoughthisisadangerousprocedure,andtheapplicationofradiationisalmostalwayspainfulandnotalwayssuccessful.

Themostworryingaspectofnucleartechnology,though,isitsuseformilitarypurposes.Enoughatomicbombshavealreadybeenbuilttocompletelydestroytheplanet,andtherealdangeristhatonedaysomecountrywillstillstartawarwiththeseweapons.Toomanycountriesnowhavetherequiredtechnologytomakesuchbombs,whichcurrentlyresultsinmuchdebateabouthowtocontrolthesituation.

Inconclusion,nucleartechnologycertainlyhaspositiveuses,butis,nonetheless,dangerous.Therefore,itwouldhavebeenbetterifithadneverbeenusedtocreatenuclearweapons.Iflifeonearthistocontinue,allthenuclearnationsoftheworldshouldagreetodisarmassoonaspossible.

Therearesomesubjectsinwhichacomputercanbeusedsuccessfullytoteach.Elementarymathematics,elementarylanguagelearning,anyareawhichrequiresastudenttomemorizebasicfactsthroughrepetitioniswellsuitedtocomputerlearning.Thecomputercanbeprogrammedtoprovideanendlessnumberofsimplequestions,andasthestudentanswersthesequestions,thefactsarelearnedandreinforced.

However,inthelearningandpracticeofmorecomplexideas,thecomputerisnotadequate.Acomputercanevaluateananswerasrightorwrong,butitcannotdeterminewhy.Acomputercandetectanerror,butitcannotfindoutwhyastudentismakingmistakes,nottomentionrepresentingimportantconceptsinadifferentwaysothestudentwillunderstand.Acomputercanonlyindicatethatthefinalansweriswrong,butitcannotdetermineatwhatstageinmathematicsproblemthestudenthasmadeanerror.Inaddition,tasksinvolvingreasoningcannotbetaughtbycomputers,astherearetoomanyvariablesforacomputertodealwithsuccessfully.

Thus,whilecomputersmaybeusefulasatoolforpracticingsimpleskills,theyarenotanessentialfeatureofmoderneducation,becausetheycanneithermonitorastudent’sgraspofconcepts,norevaluateastudent’sreasoning,stillnortoanalyzethecausesforanerror.Untilfurtherdevelopmentsincomputersaremade,thehumanteacherwillremainindispensable.

Anotherimportantmeansofcontrollingpopulationgrowthistodisadvantagepeoplewhohavemorethanoneortwochildren.ThiscanbedoneinChinaorIndia,bymeansofahighertax.Althoughitiscontroversial,personswhocomeforwardtobesterilizedcouldbegivenasumofmoney.Itmayalsobepossibletomakeitadvantageousforpeopletohaveonlyonechildbygivingsuchcouplesaspecialtaxdeduction.

Thisproblemisaverydifficultonetoaddressbutweshouldmakeeveryefforttodoso.Therearemanyotherproblems,whicharerelatedtoover-populationsuchasincreasingcrime,illiteracyandpollution,whichcanbecurbedbyproperpopulationcontrol.

Infaceoftheintensecompetition,onehastobewell-prepared,psychologicallyandtechnologically,forworkinthefuture.Asisknown,changingone’sjobis,andwillbe,acommonpractice.
