TestPurpose

CollegeEnglishTestBand4(CET4)isthenorm-referencedandcriterion-referencedtestwhichisdesignedtoassesscollegestudents’Englishproficiencyaccuratelyandobjectively.Itfocusesthetestofoverallabilityincludingwriting,listening,readingandtranslatingskillsandsoon.CET4aimstopromotetheimplementofsyllabusandlevelofEnglishteaching.

TestDomain

TheoreticalConstruct:

Toteststudents’abilitytolistenverbalinformation,processinformationandsolveproblemsinreadingtext,translateChineseintoEnglishaccuratelyandfrequentlyandexpressone’sideacorrectlyandclearlyinEnglish.

TestTakers

TesttakersaretheundergraduatesandgraduateswhohavefinishedthecollegeEnglishBand4curriculumrequiredbysyllabus.

TestMethod

Discrete-point test and integrative test are used in combination with emphasis on the latter.

Thestudentsshouldbeinformedoftheproceduresoftestadministrationbeforehand.Testinstructionsshouldbereadtostudentbeforethetest.Whenthetestbegins,thestudentsshouldfirstfinishthewritingsectiononAnswerSheet1within30minutes.Later,whenListeningComprehensionbegins,studentsshouldwritetheiransweronAnswerSheet1.30minuteslater,supervisorsshouldcollecttheAnswerSheet1within5minutesandstudentsshouldfinishtherestofthetestonAnswerSheet2.
