federalsuit/case：
联邦法案件。
美国是联邦制国家，除联邦的司法系统和法律外，各州有自己的司法体系和法律。
如州法律与联邦法律相矛盾，则以联邦法律为准。
以联邦法律为依据提起的讼案（即指称被告违反联邦法的案件），称为“federalsuit”或“federalcase”。
课文中Bilott代表Tennant依据联邦法律（如ToxicSubstancesControlAct）提起诉讼，所以称为联邦法案件。
ToxicSubstancesControlAct（TSCA）:
《有毒物质控制法》。
该法案1976年经美国国会通过，由环境保护局（EnvironmentalProtectionAgency）执行。
其中规定在化学新产品投产前，厂商必须通知E.P.A.，提供有关信息，由后者判定是否禁止或限制该产品的生产。
由于不要求厂商必须首先通过安全性测试确定产品无害，该法案被很多人认为是一个“没有牙齿”的法案。
EPA：

3M（MinnesotaMiningandManufacturing）：

Teflon:
aregisteredtrademarkofTheChemoursCompany（formerlyDuPont）whichitusesforitsrangeoffluoropolymers,thebestknownofwhichispolytetrafluoroethylene（PTFE）.Itprovidesaverysmoothsurfacewhichfooddoesnotstickto,soitisoftenusedtocoatpans.特富龙是科慕公司（由杜邦公司剥离而出）使用在其一系列氟聚合物产品上的注册商标，其中最有名的是聚四氟乙烯。
