Worldleadersfromnearly200countrieshavesignedanimportanthistoricagreementtofightglobalclimatechange.Theagreementcameaftertwoweeksoftalksbetweentheleadersatthe21stConferenceinParis,France.

Worldleadershavemetmanytimestodiscussclimatechange.But,the21stConferenceofParties,orCOP21,whichbeganonNovember30inParis,wasthefirsttimetheyagreedonaglobal,legalpact(协定).

Beforetheconference,eachnationwasaskedtocreateplansonhowtoreachthesharedgoal.Thepactthatwassignedallowscountriestodecidethebestwaytocutdowntheirgaspollution.Nomatterhowtheydecidetogogreen,eachcountrymustreporthonestlyonalloftheirefforts.Everyfiveyears,nationsmustlookattheworkthey’vedoneandsubmitnewplansonhowtheywillimproveoverthenextfiveyears.

Inthepact,thecountriespledge(承诺)tolimittheamountofgreenhousegasesemitted(排放)byhumanactivitytothelevelsthattrees,soilandoceanscanabsorbnaturally.Iturgescountriestospendtrillionsofdollarsoncreatingnewenergysources,likesolarandwindpower.Italsorequirescountriestoraiseatleast$100billioneachyeartohelpdevelopingcountries.
