一只母老鼠带着孩子出来散步，突然她看见一只猫正在灌木丛中虎视耽耽。

母老鼠向着猫叫道：

“汪，汪，汪”，猫听了非常害怕，拼命跑走了。

母老鼠回过头洋洋自得的对孩子说：

“现在你知道外语的重要性了吧。

2.TrickofStealingWatermelons

偷瓜妙计

阿Q依旧偷性不改。

未庄张家的西瓜又大又甜，远近闻名。

有天晚上，阿Q嘴馋，便约王胡一起摸黑爬到张家的西瓜地旁，摇曳的烛光中，隐约可见竹床躺着一位看瓜的伙计。

二位不敢贸然行事，于是，阿Q先摸了一小块石子向瓜田中央扔去，看瓜的伙计没有反应，或许他睡着了。

二人又向前爬了爬。

阿Q的手突然摸着了一堆粘乎乎的东西，凑近鼻子一闻，酸臭酸臭，“妈妈的！

”阿Q禁不住在心里骂道。

这时隐约听见轻轻的象是拉风箱的声音。

“对了，这是鼾声”，阿Q心想，不由一阵欣喜，拉着王胡朝竹床爬过去想探个究竟。

的的确确是鼾声，阿Q对着王胡耳语一番。

二人蹑手蹑脚地来到竹床边，轻轻地连人带竹床一起抬到离瓜地不远的水塘边，将竹床紧临水塘放好，并使放鞋的一边正对水塘。

二人返回瓜地，放心大胆地如同在自家地里摘瓜一般，拣最大的摘了两大袋子，扛着袋子走了。

走了约二三百米，阿Q回过头来大喊一声：

“有人偷瓜罗！

”随后听见远处扑通一声，阿Q和王胡呵呵直笑，便头也不回地去了。

3.TheHareandtheTortoise

龟兔赛跑

AHAREonedayridiculedtheshortfeetandslowpaceoftheTortoise,whoreplied,laughing:

"Thoughyoubeswiftasthewind,Iwillbeatyouinarace."TheHare,believingherassertiontobesimplyimpossible,assentedtotheproposal;andtheyagreedthattheFoxshouldchoosethecourseandfixthegoal.Onthedayappointedfortheracethetwostartedtogether.TheTortoiseneverforamomentstopped,butwentonwithaslowbutsteadypacestraighttotheendofthecourse.TheHare,lyingdownbythewayside,fellfastasleep.Atlastwakingup,andmovingasfastashecould,hesawtheTortoisehadreachedthegoal,andwascomfortablydozingafterherfatigue.Slowbutsteadywinstherace.

乌龟与兔为他们俩谁跑得快而争论不休。

于是，他们定好了比赛的时间和地点。

比赛一开始，兔觉得自己是天生的飞毛腿，跑得快，对比赛掉以轻心，躺在路旁睡着了。

乌龟深知自己走得慢，毫不气馁，不停地朝前奔跑。

结果，乌龟超过了睡熟了的兔子，夺得了胜利的奖品。

这故事说明，奋发图强的弱者也能战胜骄傲自满的强者

4.HerculesandtheWagoner

大力神和车夫

ACARTERwasdrivingawagonalongacountrylane,whenthewheelssankdowndeepintoarut.Therusticdriver,stupefiedandaghast,stoodlookingatthewagon,anddidnothingbututterloudcriestoHerculestocomeandhelphim.Hercules,itissaid,appearedandthusaddressedhim:

"Putyourshoulderstothewheels,myman.Goadonyourbullocks,andnevermorepraytomeforhelp,untilyouhavedoneyourbesttohelpACARTERwasdrivingawagonalongacountrylane,whenthewheelssankdowndeepintoarut.Therusticdriver,stupefiedandaghast,stoodlookingatthewagon,anddidnothingbututterloudcriestoHerculestocomeandhelphim.Hercules,itissaid,appearedandthusaddressedhim:

"Putyourshoulderstothewheels,myman.Goadonyourbullocks,andnevermorepraytomeforhelp,untilyouhavedoneyourbesttohelpyourself,ordependuponityouwillhenceforthprayinvain."Self-helpisthebesthelp.

一名车夫赶着货车沿着乡间小路行进。

途中车轮陷入了很深的车辙中，再也无法前进。

这时，愚蠢的车夫吓得茫然失措，一筹莫展，痴呆呆地站在那里，凝视着货车，不断地高声喊叫，求大力神来助他一把。

大力神来到后，对他说：

“朋友，用你的肩膀扛起车轮，再抽打拉车的马。

你自己不自力更生，尽力解决，仅靠祈求我，怎么行呢？

”这是说自力更生，自助自立是克服困难的最好办法。

5.TheFishermanPiping

吹箫的渔夫

AFISHERMANskilledinmusictookhisfluteandhisnetstotheseashore.Standingonaprojectingrock,heplayedseveraltunesinthehopethatthefish,attractedbyhismelody,wouldoftheirownaccorddanceintohisnet,whichhehadplacedbelow.Atlast,havinglongwaitedinvain,helaidasidehisflute,andcastinghisnetintothesea,madeanexcellenthauloffish.Whenhesawthemleapingaboutinthenetupontherockhesaid:

"Oyoumostperversecreatures,whenIpipedyouwouldnotdance,butnowthatIhaveceasedyoudosomerrily."

有一个会吹箫的渔夫，带着他心爱的箫和渔网来到了海边。

他先站在一块突出的岩石上，吹起箫来，心想鱼听到这美妙音乐就会自己跳到他的前面来的。

他聚精会神地吹了好久，毫无结果。

他只好将箫放下，拿起网来，向水里撒去，结果捕到了许多的鱼。

他将网中的鱼一条条地扔到岸上，并对乱蹦乱跳的鱼说：

“喂，你们这些不识好歹的东西！

我吹箫时，你们不跳舞，现在我不吹了，你们倒跳了起来。

”这故事适用于那些做事不择时机的人们。

6.TheWolfandtheCrane

狼与鹭鸶

AWOLFwhohadabonestuckinhisthroathiredaCrane,foralargesum,toputherheadintohismouthanddrawoutthebone.WhentheCranehadextractedtheboneanddemandedthepromisedpayment,theWolf,grinningandgrindinghisteeth,exclaimed:

"Why,youhavesurelyalreadyhadasufficientrecompense,inhavingbeenpermittedtodrawoutyourheadinsafetyfromthemouthandjawsofawolf."Inservingthewicked,expectnoreward,andbethankfulifyouescapeinjuryforyourpains.

狼误吞下了一块骨头，十分难受，四处奔走，寻访医生。

他遇见了鹭鸶，谈定酬金请他取出骨头，鹭鸶把自己的头伸进狼的喉咙里，叼出了骨头，便向狼要定好的酬金。

狼回答说：

“喂，朋友，你能从狼嘴里平安无事地收回头来，难道还不满足，怎么还要讲报酬？

”这故事说明，对坏人行善的报酬，就是认识坏人不讲信用的本质。

7.TheKingdomoftheLion

狮子国王

THEBEASTSofthefieldandforesthadaLionastheirking.Hewasneitherwrathful,cruel,nortyrannical,butjustandgentleasakingcouldbe.Duringhisreignhemadearoyalproclamationforageneralassemblyofallthebirdsandbeasts,anddrewupconditionsforauniversalleague,inwhichtheWolfandtheLamb,thePantherandtheKid,theTigerandtheStag,theDogandtheHare,shouldlivetogetherinperfectpeaceandamity.TheHaresaid,"Oh,howIhavelongedtoseethisday,inwhichtheweakshalltaketheirplacewithimpunitybythesideofthestrong."AndaftertheHaresaidthis,heranforhislife.

有只狮子做了国王，他善良、温和，与人一样和平、公正。

在他的统治下，惩恶扬善，裁决动物之间的纠纷，使所有的动物和睦相处。

胆小的兔子说：

“我祈祷能得到这样的日子，那时弱者就不怕被强者伤害了。

”然后赶紧逃命去了。

8.TheRoosterandtheJewel

公鸡和宝玉

AROOSTER,scratchingforfoodforhimselfandhishens,foundapreciousstoneandexclaimed:

"Ifyourownerhadfoundthee,andnotI,hewouldhavetakentheeup,andhavesettheeinthyfirstestate;butIhavefoundtheefornopurpose.Iwouldratherhaveonebarleycornthanallthejewelsintheworld."

一只公鸡在田野里为自己和母鸡们寻找食物。

他发现了一块宝玉，便对宝玉说：

“若不是我，而是你的主人找到了你，他会非常珍惜地把你捡起来；但我发现了你却毫无用处。

我与其得到世界上一切宝玉，倒不如得到一颗麦子好。

”

这是说自己需要的东西才是真正珍贵的。

9.TheFatherandHisSons

父亲与争吵的儿子们

AFATHERhadafamilyofsonswhowereperpetuallyquarrelingamongthemselves.Whenhefailedtohealtheirdisputesbyhisexhortations,hedeterminedtogivethemapracticalillustrationoftheevilsofdisunion;andforthispurposeheonedaytoldthemtobringhimabundleofsticks.Whentheyhaddoneso,heplacedthefaggotintothehandsofeachoftheminsuccession,andorderedthemtobreakitinpieces.Theytriedwithalltheirstrength,andwerenotabletodoit.Henextopenedthefaggot,tookthesticksseparately,onebyone,andagainputthemintohissons'hands,uponwhichtheybrokethemeasily.Hethenaddressedtheminthesewords:

"Mysons,ifyouareofonemind,andunitetoassisteachother,youwillbeasthisfaggot,uninjuredbyalltheattemptsofyourenemies;butifyouaredividedamongyourselves,youwillbebrokenaseasilyasthesesticks."

有个父亲的儿子们常常互相争斗不休。

他多次语重心长地劝说他们，尽管他苦口婆心，仍无济于事。

他认为应该用事实来教育他们，便叫儿子们去拿一捆木棒来。

木棒拿来后，他先把整捆木棒交给他们，叫他们折断。

儿子们一个个竭尽了全力都无法将它折断。

随后他解开了那捆木棒，给他们每人一根。

他们都毫不费力地将木棒折为两段。

这时，父亲说：

“孩子们，你们要像木棒一样，团结一致，齐心协力，就不会被敌人征服；可你们互相争斗不休，便很容易被敌人打垮。

”

这故事说明，团结就是不可征服的力量，而内讧却只能耗损自己。

10.TheCharcoal-BurnerandtheFuller

烧炭人与漂布人

ACHARCOAL-BURNERcarriedonhistradeinhisownhouse.Onedayhemetafriend,aFuller,andentreatedhimtocomeandlivewithhim,sayingthattheyshouldbefarbetterneighborsandthattheirhousekeepingexpenseswouldbelessened.TheFullerreplied,"ThearrangementisimpossibleasfarasIamconcerned,forwhateverIshouldwhiten,youwouldimmediatelyblackenagainwithyourcharcoal."Likewilldrawlike.

烧炭人在一所房子里干活，看见有一个漂布人搬迁到他的旁边来住时，满怀高兴地走上去劝他与自己同住，并解释说这样彼此更亲密，更方便，还更省钱。

漂布人却回答说：

“也许你说的是真话，但完全不可能办到，因为凡我所漂白的，都将被你弄黑。

”这故事说明，不同类的人难相处。
