Shebegantestingherarea’sriver—theOhio.Withasimpledevicesheherselfhaddesigned,shecollected350watersamplesfromtheOhioovertenweeks.Shetaughtherselftoanalyzethesamplesbyreadingscientificjournals.Itwasoneofthemostscientificallysoundprojectsforsomeoneherage.
