1Introduction

ThispackmustbeusedinconjunctionwithacopyoftheGradedUnitspecificationwhichdetailsthestandardofperformanceexpectedofthecandidate.AcopyoftheGradedUnitspecificationcanbeobtainedfromSQA.

ThispacksupplementstheinstructionsfordesigningtheassessmenttaskandassessingcandidatesfortheGradedUnitspecification.Itaimstoprovideanexampleofassessmentthatisvalid,reliableandpracticable.Theassessmenttask（s）detailedinthispackcorrespondstotheinstructionsfordesigningtheassessmenttaskoutlinedintheGradedUnitspecification.

Whilsttheexampleprovidedisintendedforguidance,itmayalsobeusedasanassessmentinstrument,aslongasthecentreensurestheintegrityandconfidentialityoftheassessmentinthefirstandsubsequentyearsofuseandbetweencentres.Itmaybeusedinavarietyofwaysincluding,forexample:

ItisimportantthatyoumakesurethattheassessmentexemplarisusedinacontextappropriatetothedeliveryoftheGradedUnitandtotheGroupAwardofwhichitformsapart.Althoughthecontentofthisexemplarhasbeenpriormoderatedasasuitableinstrumentofassessment,youshouldnotethatusingthisassessmentexemplardoesnotautomaticallyguaranteesuccessfulexternalmoderation.Itisstillyourresponsibilitytomakesurethatalltheappropriateinternalqualityassuranceproceduresaresatisfactorilycompleted.Forexample,avalid,effectiveandapprovedinternalmoderationsystemmustbeinuseatyourcentre.

Howtogenerateevidence

Introduction

TheScottishQualificationsAuthority’ssystemofassessmentmeasurestheevidenceofacandidate’sattainmentofknowledge,understandingandskillsagainstdefinedcriteria.Theassessmentprocessmustallowforevidenceofeachcandidate’sperformancetobegeneratedandcollected.ThisevidencemustthenbejudgedagainstthestandardssetoutintheGradedUnitspecification.ToachievetheGradedUnitthecandidatemustsuccessfullymeetthestandardsandtheremustbeevidencetoprovethis.

TheGradedUnitspecificationdefinesthecriteriayouneedtousetojudgewhetherornotthecandidatehasmetthestandards.AllGradedUnitshavethefollowing:

Assessmentguidelines

Itisimportanttorealisethatitisuptotheassessortojudgewhenandifthecandidatehassatisfactorilymetthestandards.Thisdecisionshouldbebasedonthequalityandcorrectquantityofevidencecollected,setagainstthestandardsintheGradedUnit.

Conditionsofassessment

ThesearesetoutintheGradedUnitspecification.Theyarealsogivenbelow.

Theassessmentisbasedonaclosed-bookwrittenexaminationlastingthreehours.Theexaminationconsistsofacasestudyofanorganisationandquestionsrelatingtothecasestudy.Theexaminationquestionsareunseenandtheassessmentshouldbeconductedincontrolledandinvigilatedconditions.

Thecasestudyshouldbegiventocandidatesnolessthan10dayspriortothedateoftheexamination.Candidatesmaynotbringtheircopyofthecasestudytotheexaminationwiththem.Afreshcopyofthecasestudymustbegiventocandidatesatthetimeoftheexamination.

AnexaminationpaperandacasestudyofRobertWisemanDairiesplcaregivenonthefollowingpages.

Asnotedabove,candidatesmaybegivenacopyofthecasestudynolessthan10daysbeforethedateoftheexamination.Theyarenotallowedtobringtheircopytotheexaminationandshouldbegivenacleancopyontheday.

Theexaminationshouldlastforthreehours.InaccordancewiththeGradedUnitspecification,thetotalmarksfortheexaminationare100.Assessorsshouldaggregatethemarksachievedbythecandidatetoarriveatanoverallmarkfortheexamination.

AssessorswillthenassignagradetothecandidateforthisgroupawardGradedUnitbasedonthefollowinggradeboundaries:

♦B=60%—69%

♦C=50%—59%
