纽约拥有众多不为人注意的事物。

在这个城市有猫睡在停泊的车下，两只犰狳攀上圣帕特里克教堂，还有成千的蚂蚁爬上帝国大厦的楼顶。

Theyarethecity'sinsomniacs,nightwatchmen,andpeoplewhocan'tgohome,donotwanttogohome,orhavenohome.Theyarederelicts,homosexuals,cops,hacks,truckdrivers,cleaningladiesandrestaurantmenwhohaveworkedallnight.Theyarealsoalcoholicswhoarewaitingateighta.m.topayfortycentsforasoftseatandtosleepinthedarksmokytheatre.Andyet,asidefrombeingsmoky,eachoftheTimesSquare'stheatreshasaspecialquality,orlackofquality,aboutit.AttheVictoryTheatreonefindshorrorfilms,whileattheTimesSquareTheatretheyfeatureonlycowboyfilms.Therearefirst-runfilmsforfortycentsattheLyric,whileattheSelwyntherearealwayssecond-runfilmsforthirtycents.ButifyougototheApolloTheatreyouwillsee,inadditiontoforeignfilms,peopleinthelobbytalkingwiththeirhands.Thesearedeaf-and-dumbmoviefanswhopatronizetheApollobecausetheyreadthesubtitles.TheApolloprobablyhasthebiggestdeaf-and-dumbmovieaudienceintheworld.

7点半才过一会儿，几百个人就在42街排着队，等候8点钟电影院开门。
