Referencetestmethods
A1.1GeneralConditions(GC)
A1.1.1Outdoortestsiteandgeneralarrangementsformeasurementsinvolvingtheuseofradiatedfields(GC4)
Theoutdoortestsiteshallbeonareasonablylevelsurfaceorground.Atonepointonthesiteagroundplaneofatleast5mdiametershallbeprovided.Inthemiddleofthisgroundplaneanon-conductingsupportcapableofrotationthrough360degreesinthehorizontalplaneshallbeusedtosupportthetestsampleat1,5mabovethegroundplane.
Thetestsiteshallbelargeenoughtoallowtheerectionofameasuringortransmittingantennaatadistanceofhalfawavelengthoratleast3mwhicheveristhegreater.Sufficientprecautionsshallbetakentoensurethatreflectionsfromextraneousobjectsadjacenttothesiteandgroundreflectionsdonotdegradethemeasurementresults.
Thetestantennaisusedtodetecttheradiationfromboththetestsampleandthesubstitutionantenna,whenthesiteisusedforradiationmeasurements.Wherenecessarythesubstitutionantennaisusedasatransmittingantenna,whenthesiteisusedforthemeasurementofreceivercharacteristics.Thisantennaismountedonasupportsuchastoallowtheantennatobeusedineitherthehorizontalorverticalpolarizationandfortheheightofitscentreabovegroundtobevariedovertherange1mto4m.Preferablytestantennaswithpronounceddirectivityshouldbeused.Thesizeofthetestantennaalongthemeasurementaxisshallnotexceed20 %ofthemeasuringdistance.
Forradiationmeasurementsthetestantennaisconnectedtoatestreceivercapableofbeingtunedtoanyfrequencyunderinvestigationandofmeasuringaccuratelytherelativelevelsofsignalsatitsinput.Whennecessary(forreceivermeasurements)thetestreceiverisreplacedbyasignalsource.
Thesubstitutionantennashallbeahalfwavedipole,resonantatthefrequencyunderconsideration,orashorteneddipole,or(intherange1GHzto4GHz)ahornradiator.Antennasotherthanahalfwavedipoleshallhavebeencalibratedtothehalfwavedipole.Thecentreofthisantennashallcoincidewiththereferencepointofthetestsampleithasreplaced.Thisreferencepointshallbethevolumecentreofthesamplewhenitsantennaismountedinsidethecabinet,orthepointwhereanexternalantennaisconnectedtothecabinet.Thedistancebetweenthelowerextremityofthedipoleandthegroundshallbeatleast30 cm.
Thesubstitutionantennashallbeconnectedtoacalibratedsignalgeneratorwhenthesiteisusedforradiationmeasurementsandtoacalibratedmeasuringreceiverwhenthesiteisusedformeasurementsofreceivercharacteristics.Thesignalgeneratorandthereceivershallbeoperatingatthefrequenciesunderinvestigationandshallbeconnectedtotheantennathroughsuitablematchingandbalancingnetwork.
A1.1.2Anechoicshieldedchamber(GC5)
Asanalternativetotheabovementionedoutdoortestsiteanindoortestsite,beingawellshieldedanechoicchambersimulatingfreespaceenvironmentmaybeused.Ifsuchachamberisused,thisshallberecordedinthetestreport.
NOTE:
Theanechoicshieldedchamberisthepreferredtestsitefortestingtothepresentdocument.
Themeasurementsitemaybeanelectricallyshieldedanechoicchamberbeing10mlong,5mbroadand5mhigh.WallsandceilingshouldbecoatedwithRFabsorbersof1mheight.Thegroundshouldbecoveredwithabsorbingmaterial1mthickabletocarrytestequipmentandoperators.Ameasuringdistanceof3mto5minthelongmiddleaxisofthechambercanbeusedformeasurementsuptoatleast10GHz.
Thetestantenna,testreceiver,substitutionantennaandcalibratedsignalgeneratorareusedinawaysimilartothatoftheoutdoortestsitemethodwiththeexceptionthat,becausethefloorabsorbersrejectfloorreflections,theantennaheightneednotbechangedandshallbeatthesameheightasthetestsample.Intherangebetween30MHzand100 MHzsomeadditionalcalibrationmaybenecessary.
A1.1.3Temporaryantennaconnector(GC7)
IftheMStobetesteddoesnotnormallyhaveapermanentexternal50connectorthenfortestpurposesonlyitmaybemodifiedtofitatemporary50antennaconnector.
Thepermanentintegralantennashallbeusedformeasurementof:
-Transmittereffectiveradiatedpower(subclause13.3).
-Radiatedspuriousemissions(clause12).
FortestsintherelevantMSReceiveband:
-Thetemporaryantennacouplingfactorisdeterminedusingtheproceduredefinedinannex1,subclause1.1.5.Whenusingthetemporaryantennaconnector,thetemporaryantennacouplingfactorneedstobetakenintoconsiderationwhendeterminingastimulusormeasuredlevelinthereceiveband.
FortestsintherelevantMSTransmitband:
-Thetemporaryantennacouplingfactorisdeterminedusingtheproceduredefinedinsubclause13.3.4.2Whenusingthetemporaryantennaconnector,thetemporaryantennacouplingfactorneedstobetakenintoconsiderationwhendeterminingastimulusormeasuredlevelinthetransmitband.
Forfrequenciesoutsidetheabovementionedrelevantbandsthetemporaryantennacouplingfactorisassumedtobe0 dB.
NOTE1:
Theuncertaintyinthedeterminedvalueofthetemporaryantennacouplingfactorisdirectlyrelatedtotheuncertaintyofthefieldstrengthvaluemeasuredinsubclause13.3.4.2stepn)andannex1,subclause 1.1.5.2(approximately±[3dB]).Bymutualagreement,betweentheMSmanufacturerandthetestingauthority,avalueof0dBforthetemporaryantennacouplingfactorcouldbeused.
NOTE2:
TheaccommodationoftheuncertaintyinthetemporaryantennacouplingfactorintherelevantMSreceivebandforthetestsinclause14isforfurtherstudy.
NOTE3:
TheuncertaintyinthetemporaryantennacouplingfactorintherelevantMStransmitbandcanbeaccommodatedwithappropriateadjustmentofthemeasuredlevelsbytheuncertainty.
TestingmustbeperformedinthefollowingordertoensurethatallthefreefieldmeasurementsareperformedbeforetheMSismodified.

A1.1.4Temporaryantennaconnectorcharacteristics
Themethodofconnectionofthetemporaryconnectorshallallowsecureandrepeatableconnectionstobemadetothedeviceundertest.
Theantennaconnectorshallpresentanominal50impedanceovertheGSMreceiveandtransmitfrequencyranges.Themaximumlosswithinthefrequencyrange100kHzto12,75GHzshallbelessthan1dB.
Theconnectioncircuitryshallbemaximallybroadbandandshallcontainnonon-linearoractivedevices.
Thecharacteristicsoftheconnectorshallnotbesignificantlyaffectedbytemperaturesintherange-25°to+60°Celsius.
A1.1.5Calibrationofthetemporaryantennaconnector
Forequipmentsfittedwithanintegralantennaandnotprovidedwithapermanentmeansforconnectiontoanexternalantennaacalibrationprocedureisrequiredtoallowsubsequentmeasurementstobeperformedonthetemporaryantennaconnector.
Oncecalibratedthistemporaryantennaconnectorenablesallreceivertestprocedurestobeidenticalforequipmentswithanintegralantennaandforequipmentswithanantennaconnector.
Thecalibrationprocedureshallbecarriedoutatthreefrequencies,namelyanARFCNinthelowmidandhighARFCNranges.Theprocedureconsistsofthreedistinctstagesasfollows:
1)EstablishtheMSantennaradiationpatternforthethreeselectedfrequencies.
2)Calibratethetestrange(oranechoicshieldedchamber)fortheconditionsneededin1).
3)Determinethetemporaryantennaconnectorcouplingfactor.
A1.1.5.1Antennaradiationpattern
a)TheMSshallbeintheanechoicshieldedchamber,oronanoutdoortestsite,onanisolatedsupportinaverticalpositionatanorientationspecifiedbythemanufacturer.Thispositionisthe0°position.
Atestantenna,connectedtotheSSshallbeintheanechoicshieldedchamber,orontheoutdoortestsite,atadistanceofatleast3mfromtheMS.
b)AcallshallbeoriginatedbytheSStotheMSonafrequencyinthelowARFCNrange.TheMSshallbemadetoanswerthecall.TheSSshallcommandtheMStomaximumtransmitpower.
c)TheSSshall,usingestimatedparametersfortheoutdoortestsiteoranechoicshieldedchamber,setitsoutputlevel"E"[seefigureA1-1togiveanMSreceiverinputlevelofapproximately32 dBμVemf.Thiscorrespondstoafieldstrengthof55,5dBμV/mattheMSposition.ThesignalshallbetheStandardTestSignalC1.
NOTE1:
Theabsolutevalueofthereceivedsignallevelisnotcritical.ThevaluesuggestedhoweverwillensurethattheMSreceiverisoperatingessentiallyerrorfree,yetislowenoughtoavoidanynonlineareffectsinthereceiver.
d)TheSSshallusetheRXLEVmessagefromtheMStodetermineameasureofthereceivedfieldstrength.TheproceduredetailedintheflowchartoffigureA1-1shallnowbefollowed.

ThesignallevelfromtheSSthatjustresultsinthetransitionfromRXLEVatoRXLEVbshallberecordedasEi.
NOTE2:
TheactualvaluesofRXLEVaandRXLEVbwillneedtoberecorded,becausethistransitionwillbeusedasthereferencepointforallfurtherstagesofthecalibrationprocedure.
