  Itallbeginsinthedeadofwinter;TheChristmasSeason.Thecoldestoneofall,werethewarhasmadefuelforheatingveryscarce.Whileherhusbandisoffatwar,Marmeeisleftalonetoraisetheirfourdaughters:

Jo,Meg,Beth,andAmy.

  OnChristmasEve,Marmeehasjustarrivedhomefrompassingoutfoodtothelessfortunatewithaletterfromherhusband,thegirls'father.Theallgathertogetheraroundthefiretoreadtheletter.Afterwards,thegirlsaretearyeyed.Marmeekissesthemandtheyareofftobed.

  Joislongingtobecomeawriter.So,everynightshestaysuplatewritingthescriptforsoapoperas.Asmorningcomessheisthelastoneawake.Thetableisset,andfoodpreparedfortheirChristmasfeast.

  Asduskfalls,thegirlsareallupintheatticactingoutJo'splay,whichshereadsfromthelocal(fake)newspaper.Astheyareperforming,theirrich,next-doorneighborsgrandsonwatchesfromthewindow.

JoandMeg,getreadytoattendtheChristmasBall.WhileJoiscurlingMeg'shair,thereisastrangesmelltotheair.Amyscreams,Megshairisbeingsinged.Theycontinuediggingthroughtheoldclothesbinforapairofwhitegloves.

  Everynightbeforegoingtosleep,Iwanttocarryittoread,lyinginthebed,holdingitinmyhanduntilfallingasleep.ThebookisstillnexttomewhenIwakeupthenext iswhatIwant.ThisisthefirstbookIlovesomuchtoread,becauseIliketolookintothepastfromthechildhood,Icanfindmyownshadow,myowngrowthprocess.Inthebook,Icanforgetthesadnessasachildcanputitallbehind.

  ThisbookwaswrittenbytheUnitedStatesLouisa·May·Alcott.Thisbookcanberegardedasafamilybiographytoread,butitisnotabouttheadults'strugglebutthegrowthofthechildren,tellingthemhowtobecomematurefromanaive,fromvulnerabletosuffering,fromurgenttopatient,fromselftoothers.Thebookisalivelysplasheverywhere,theyoungman'sinnocence,purity,courageandvisionforthefuture.Theyarereallyimpressive.Theyfourcharacterswerecompletelydifferent.Megwas16,Jowas15,Bethwas14,Amywas12.Megwasbeautiful, sheenvied didtuloringtohelpthefamily.Joehadaeautifulhair,andshewasalwaysrunningaroundincirclesandhadastrong sheoftenmakedthingsworse,hadabadtemperanddidsomethinglikeaboy,shewas lovedwritingandshehelpedfamilybydoingnursing.

  Beth,lovedbymostpeople,wasverycuteand wasveryquietandneverbeangry.Therewasnowonderthatweallcallher"littlebaby."Shelikedtocurlupinherownhappy onlywhenshemetpeopleshetrustin,shewouldbepulledout wasverysympathetictothedolls,andshetreatedthemassmallbabybyhelpingthemmakeupnew thesametime,shelovedplayingthepiano.Shewasveryeasytosatisfy.
