“ItcouldbearguedthatthisisduetothegrowingfameandattractionofYouTubeandvideobloggingstars,whoareespeciallypopularamongyoungeraudience.”Also,thesechoicesmayalsospeaktochildren'spresentworlds.Manyseventoeleven-year-oldswillspendtheirtimegamingandperhapssimultaneouslywatchingcelebritygamingbloggersinstructingthemhowtodoit.

Thesurveyfoundthat5%ofchildrenwhotookpartwantedtobeinthepolice,withthesameproportionplanningonbecomingdoctors.Agenderbreakdownshowsthetopjobchoiceforgirlswasteacher(19%),followedbyvet(11%)andsportswoman(9%),whileforboysitwassportsman(34%)followedbysocialmediaandgaming(9%)andpolice(8%).

Thishighlightsthepressingneedforclosertiesbetweenemployersandschools,tomakesurethatallchildrenhaveaccesstorolemodelsinawiderangeofsectorstohelpthemdevelopanawarenessofcareeroptionsatanearlyage.“Thisisimportanttoensurethatallchildren—regardlessofgenderandbackgrounds—canfulfilltheirfullpotential.”
