THENIGHTINGALEANDTHEROSE

  "ShesaidthatshewoulddancewithmeifIbroughtherredroses,"criedtheyoungStudent,"butinallmygardenthereisnoredrose."

  FromhernestintheoaktreetheNightingaleheardhim,andshelookedoutthroughtheleavesandwondered.

  "Noredroseinallmygarden!

"hecried,andhisbeautifuleyesfilledwithtears."Ah,onwhatlittlethingsdoeshappinessdepend!

Ihavereadallthatthewisemenhavewritten,andallthesecretsofphilosophyaremine,yetforwant(没有)ofaredroseismylifemadewretched."

  "Hereatlastisatruelover,"saidtheNightingale."NightafternighthaveIsungofhim,thoughIknewhimnot:
