InATaleofTwoCities,Lucieistherepresentativeofthecapitalisticsentimentalfigures.First,shelinksthewholefamilywithlove.LikeMrs.Defarge,theirfamiliesarepersecutedbytheMarquisofEvremondandhisbrother,sotheyhavethesimilarsufferings.ButthemostdifferentthingisthatLucieisnotlikeMrs.Defarge.Sheisthegoldenthreadoflove,shelinksthetwohatefulfamiliestogether,whichsymbolizestheeffectsofdispellinghatredwithlove.Atthebeginningofthenovel,afteralongseparationwithherfather,Lucie,thefilialgirlnearlyfaintedwhensheknowsthatherfatherisstillalive.Andwhensheseesherfather,shefeelsverysurprisedandsad.Shelovesherfatherandwantstosharehissorrowandsufferings.Andhergoldencurlyhairrecalledherfather’smemory.Herfatherremembersheraccordingtothegoldenhair,andwhenthewhitehairandgoldenhairmingled,thiswarmsourreadersandevenlightsherfather,whichsymbolizesthefreedomofherfather.
