WiththepassingofWorldWarIIandtheKoreanWar,peoplerealizedthattobefairtoveteransoftheseandlaterwars,ArmisticeDaywouldeitherneedtobechangedorotherholidayswouldneedtobeadopted.ThusCongresschosethesimplestsolutionandin1954changedthenametoVeteransDay.Thisstepbroadenedthescopeofthedaytoincludenotonlywarveterans,butallveterans,whetherornottheyservedtheircountryinwartime.InsomestatesVeteransDaywasdesignatedasthefourthMondayofOctober.

Thesuccessresultednotfrom“cleaneating”orcoconutoil,butfromfollowingstandardadviceforahealthy,balanceddiet.Asanaddedbonus,theparticipantsspentalittlelessonfoodthantheydidontheiroriginaldiets–andprobablyendedupwithbiggerbrains,too.Ina2015studyof250olderAustralians,Jackafoundthatthelesshealthytheirdiets,thesmallertheirlefthippocampuses(thebrainregionlinkedwithemotionalregulationandmentalhealth);thefindingwasmorerecentlyrepeatedintheNetherlandswith4,000olderadults.

Overall,Jackahasfoundthatsimplyfollowingahealthierdiet–withoutotherlifestylechangessuchasexercise,buttakingintoaccountthingssuchaseducation,income,bodyweightandotherhealthbehaviours–resultsina30%reducedriskofdepression.
