1.1.BackgroundInformation---RichardNixon

RichardMilhousNixonisoneofthemostfascinatingpoliticalfiguresofthe20thCentury.Nixon'spoliticalcareerbeganin1947whenhewaselectedtotheHouseofRepresentatives,aftercampaigningstronglyasananti-communist.By1952,hehadmovedtotheSenateandwaschosenbyDwightEisenhowertobehisrunningmateinthepresidentialelection.By1968hewasonhiswayback,winningtheRepublicanPartynomination,defeatingDemocratHubertHumphreyandbecomingthe37thPresidentonJanuary20,1969.Nixonwasre-electedinalandslidein1972,defeatingSenatorGeorgeMcGovern,andwassworninforasecondtermonJanuary20,1973.Afewdayslater,heannouncedanagreementtoendtheVietnamWar.However,bythebeginningof1973,theWatergatescandalwasunfoldingandthenexteighteenmonthsweredominatedbydamagingrevelationsandalegalfightbetweentheExecutivearmofgovernmentversustheCongressandtheSupremeCourt.Followinghisresignation,Nixondevotedhimselftorehabilitatinghispublicreputation.Hewroteanumberofbooksandtravelledwidely.Nixondiedin1994.HisfuneralwasheldonApril27attheRichardNixonLibraryandBirthplace,YorbaLinda,California.
