Inaworldwhereeconomicprosperityand“gettingahead”inworkandtechnologyarehighlyvalued,creativityandtheartsareoftenshuntedinfavorofmore“practical”pursuits.Studentsabandondreamsofactingorpaintinginordertomajorinmedicine,computertechnology,orengineering:

highlyprofitableandscientificfields.Evenwiththeadvancesinthesefields,however,thereisstillaneedforcreativityinourworld,becauseseeingthingsinanewwaycanmakeallthedifference.

Today,moreandmorepublicschoolsareforcedtoabandontheirartsprogramstomaketimeforsubjectslikescienceandmath:

subjectsinwhichallstudentsmusthaveabasicknowledgeinordertosucceedinhighereducation.However,byleavingtheseprogramsbehind,childrenaredeprivedofthecreativestimulationthattheartsprovide,andaretaughttoviewtheworldin“blackandwhite”terms:

onerightanswertoeveryproblem.Withaviewsuchasthis,howwillchildrenperforminthefuture?

Itmaybeassumedthatallpeoplewillseethingsthesameway,andproposeonlyonesolutiontoaproblem,failingtoseethebiggerpicture.

Creativityhasobviouslyinfluencedearliergenerationsinapositiveway,sothereisnoneedtoeliminatecreativityfromourworld.WhatwouldhavehappenedifFranklinRoosevelthadneverproposedhisNewDeal?
