soispecializeintwentysomethingsbecauseibelievethateverysingleoneofthose50milliontwentysomethingsdeservestoknowwhatpsychologists,sociologists,neurologistsandfertilityspecialistsalreadyknow:

thisisnotmyopinion.thesearethefacts.weknowthat80perntoflife'smostdefiningmomentstakeplabyage35.thatmeansthateightoutof10ofthedecisionsandexperiensand"aha!

"momentsthatkeyourlifewhatitiswillhavehappenedbyyourmid-30s.peoplewhoareover40,don'tpanic.thiscrowdisgoingtobefine,ithink.weknowthatthefirst10yearsofacareerhasanexponentialimpactonhowmuchmoneyyou'regoingtoearn.weknowthatmorethanhalfofamericansarerriedorarelivingwithordatingtheirfuturepartnerby30.weknowthatthebraincapsoffitssecondandlastgrowthspurtinyour20sasitrewiresitselfforhood,whichmeansthatwhateveritisyouwanttochangeaboutyourself,nowisthetimetochangeit.weknowthatpersonalitychangesmoreduringyour20sthanatanyothertimeinlife,andweknowthatfelefertilitypeaksatage28,andthingsgettrickyafterage35.soyour20sarethetimetoeducateyourselfaboutyourbodyandyouroptions.

sowhenwethinkaboutchilddevelopment,weallknowthatthefirstfiveyearsareacriticalperiodforlanguageandattachmentinthebrain.it'satimewhenyourordinary,day-to-daylifehasaninordinateimpactonwhoyouwillbee.butwhatwehearlessaboutisthatthere'ssuchathingasdevelopment,andour20sarethatcriticalperiodofdevelopment.

butthisisn'twhattwentysomethingsarehearing.newspaperstalkaboutthechangingtimetableofhood.researcherscallthe20sanextendedadolesn.journalistscoinsillynicknamesfortwentysomethingslike"twixters"and"kidults."it'strue.asaculture,wehavetrivializedwhatisactuallythedefiningdecadeofhood.
