WeaskedSophiahowMake-A-Wishhadfirststarted.ShesaidithadallbegunwithaverysickyoungboycalledChris,whohadbeendreamingforalongtimeofbecomingapoliceman.SophiasaidlotsofpeoplehadwantedtofindawaytomakeChris’sdreamcometrue--so,witheverybody’shelp,Chris,onlysevenyearsoldatthetime,hadbeena“policeman”foraday.“WhenpeoplesawhowhappyChriswaswhenhisdreamcametrue,theydecidedtotryandhelpothersickchildrentoo,andthatwasthebeginningofMake-A-Wish,”explainedSophia.
SophiaalsotoldustheFoundationtriestogivechildrenandtheirfamiliesaspecial,happytime.AMake-A-Wishvolunteervisitsthefamiliesandasksthechildrenwhattheywouldwishforiftheycouldhaveanythingintheworld.Sophiasaidthevolunteerswereimportantbecausetheyweretheoneswhohelpedtomakethewishescometrue.Theydothiseitherbyprovidingthingsthatarenecessary,orbyraisingmoneyorhelpingoutinwhateverwaytheycan.
