Peopleontheshipfacedmanydifficulties,suchasfightswiththenativeAmericanpeopleanddisease,buttheyfinallybuilttheirhomesinaplacetheynamedFortSt.Louis.Duringastrongwinterstorm,theBelleendedupontheseafloorinMatagordaBay.
In1995,afteryearsofsearching,anarchaeologistnamedJ.BartoArnoldfinallycameacrossthewreckage(残骸)oftheBelle.Ittooknearlyayearforarchaeologiststodigthesite.Theyusedacofferdamthatmadetheworkofthearchaeologistsmucheasier.Itwasalarge,specialwallthatwasplacedaroundthewreckageoftheship.Workerstookallwateroutoftheareainsidethecofferdamsothatthearchaeologistsdidn’tneedtoworkinthewater.
