Peopleontheshipfacedmanydifficulties,suchasfightswiththenativeAmericanpeopleanddisease,buttheyfinallybuilttheirhomesinaplacetheynamedFortSt.Louis.Duringastrongwinterstorm,theBelleendedupontheseafloorinMatagordaBay.
In1995,afteryearsofsearching,anarchaeologistnamedJ.BartoArnoldfinallycameacrossthewreckage（残骸）oftheBelle.Ittooknearlyayearforarchaeologiststodigthesite.Theyusedacofferdamthatmadetheworkofthearchaeologistsmucheasier.Itwasalarge,specialwallthatwasplacedaroundthewreckageoftheship.Workerstookallwateroutoftheareainsidethecofferdamsothatthearchaeologistsdidn’tneedtoworkinthewater.
Aftersomanyyears,youmightthinkalmosteverythingwouldhavedisappearedbecauseseawaterwoulddestroythembitbybit.Luckily,thethickmud,orwetearth,thatcoveredtheshiphelpedsavethethingsthatmighthavebeenlostforever.
