qualitiesgavemeagoodfoundationforacareerinindustrialengineering.

Theworkingconditionswerepoor.Thetableswheretheworkers

satwereveryhighanduncomfortable.Exceptforahalfhouratlunchtime,

therewerenobreaksinthedaytorelievetheboringwork.Therewasno

music.Thewallsoftheworkroomswereadullgraycolor.Iwas

amazedthat,theworkershadn'tgoneonstrike.

Furthermore,theworkflowwasirregular.Therewasoneespecially

absent-mindedyoungmanintheassemblylinewhosewedonbuttons.

AfterawhileIrecognizedhimas"BigJim,"whousedtositbehindmein

mathclassinhighschool.Hewasveryslowandalltheshirtswereheldup

athisposition.Workersbeyondhiminlineonhisshifthadtowaitwith

nothingtodo;therefore,agreatdealoftimeandefficiencywerelostasBig

Jimdaydreamedwhileheworked.AllweekIwonderedwhyhewasn'tfired.

reportofmyfindings.Icoveredmymajorpointsbytellinghimthefollowing:
