Globalizationisaprocessofinteractionandintegrationamongthepeople,companies,andgovernmentsofdifferentnations,aprocessdrivenbyinternationaltradeandinvestmentandaidedbyinformationtechnology.Thisprocesshaseffectsontheenvironment,onculture,onpoliticalsystems,oneconomicdevelopmentandprosperity,andonhumanphysicalwell-beinginsocietiesaroundtheworld.Globalizationisdeeplycontroversial,however.Proponentsofglobalizationarguethatitallowspoorcountriesandtheircitizenstodevelopeconomicallyandraisetheirstandardsofliving,whileopponentsofglobalizationclaimthatthecreationofanunfetteredinternationalfreemarkethasbenefitedmultinationalcorporationsintheWesternworldattheexpenseoflocalenterprises,localcultures,andcommonpeople.Resistancetoglobalizationhasthereforetakenshapebothatapopularandatagovernmentallevelaspeopleandgovernmentstrytomanagetheflowofcapital,labor,goods,andideasthatconstitutethecurrentwaveofglobalization.
