Productivitywasdeterminedbythenumberofsuccessfulcallstoclientsthatthehealthandclinicaladvisorsmadeperhour.Thecompanyearnedmoneyforeachsuccessfulcall,duringwhichanadvisorcheckedinonaclient’sprogressinanexerciseprogram,forexample,orcheckedtoseethataclientwastakingpropermedication.

Employeestypicallymadebetween400and500callsamonth,andthecompanywantedthemtoaveragearoundtwosuccessfulcallseachhour.Thosewhohadstandingdesksmetthatquota,whilethosewhoremainedseatedaveraged1.5successfulcallsperhour,GregoryGarrett,apublichealthdoctoralstudentandleadauthoronthestudy,toldTheHuffingtonPost.Ifanadvisorwasunabletoreachaclientoverthephone,thatwascountedasanunsuccessfulcall.
