ThispackmustbeusedinconjunctionwithacopyoftheGradedUnitspecificationwhichdetailsthestandardofperformanceexpectedofthecandidate.AcopyoftheGradedUnitspecificationcanbeobtainedfromSQA.

ThispacksupplementstheinstructionsfordesigningtheassessmenttaskandassessingcandidatesoftheGradedUnitspecification.Itaimstoprovideanexampleofassessmentthatisvalid,reliableandpracticable.Theassessmenttask(s)detailedinthispackcorrespondstotheinstructionsfordesigningtheassessmenttaskoutlinedintheGradedUnitspecification.

Theexampleprovidedisintendedforguidanceonly.Itmaybeusedinavarietyofwaysincluding,forexample:

♦toexemplifythestandardofperformanceexpectedofcandidatesachievingtheGradedUnit,ieasabenchmark

♦tohelpyoudevelopyourownassessmentfortheGradedUnit

♦togiveyounewideas

♦asastaffdevelopmenttool

ItisimportantthatyoumakesurethattheassessmentexemplarisusedinacontextappropriatetothedeliveryoftheGradedUnitandtothegroupawardofwhichitformsapart.Itisalsoveryimportantthatyounotethatusingthisassessmentexemplardoesnotautomaticallyguaranteesuccessfulexternalmoderation.Itisstillyourresponsibilitytomakesurethatalltheappropriateinternalqualityassuranceproceduresaresatisfactorilycompleted.Forexample,avalid,effectiveandapprovedinternalmoderationsystemmustbeinuseatyourcentre.

WhereCoreSkillshavebeenembeddedinaGradedUnitspecificationandanassessorwishestouseanalternativemethodofassessment,she/hemustensurethattheassessmentgeneratestheEvidenceRequirementsspecifiedintheGradedUnitspecification.ItisrecommendedthatthecentreseekpriormoderationforthealternativemethodtoensurethattheCoreSkillisstillcovered.TheGradedUnitspecificationwilldetailtheCoreSkillscoveredwithintheGradedUnit.

Howtogenerateevidence

Introduction

TheScottishQualificationsAuthority’ssystemofassessmentmeasurestheevidenceofacandidate’sattainmentofknowledge,understandingandskillsagainstdefinedcriteria.Theassessmentprocessmustallowforevidenceofeachcandidate’sperformancetobegeneratedandcollected.ThisevidencemustthenbejudgedagainstthestandardssetoutintheGradedUnitspecification.ToachievetheGradedUnitthecandidatemustsuccessfullymeetthestandardsandtheremustbeevidencetoprovethis.

TheGradedUnitspecificationdefinesthecriteriayouneedtousetojudgewhetherornotthecandidatehasmetthestandards.AllGradedUnitshavethefollowing:
