Forcenturies,Pompeiilayburiedunderstoneandash.Then,intheyear1861,anItalianscientistnamedGinseppebegantouncoverPompeii.Slowly,carefully,Ginseppeandhismendug.ThecitylookedalmostthesameasithadlookedinAD79.Therewerestreetsandfountains,housesandshops.Therewasastadiumwith20000seats.Perhapsthemostimportantofall,therewereeverydayobjects,whichtellusagreatdealaboutthepeoplewholivedinPompeii.Manyglassesandjarshadsomedarkbluecolourinthebottom,soweknowthatthepeopleofPompeiilikedwine.Theylikedbread,too;metalbreadpanswereineverybakery.Inonebakerytherewere81round,flatloavesofbread―atypeofbreadthatisstillsoldinItalytoday.Tinyboxesfilledwithadark,shinypowdertellusthatwomenlikedtoweareyemakeup.
