ToappreciatetherichvarietyofMr.Lawrencewemustreadhislaternovelsandhisvolumesofpoetry.ButSonsandLoversrevealstherangeofhistypicalpower.Herearecombinedandblended(混合的)sortof“realism”andalmostlyric(抒情的)imageryandrhythm.Thespeechofthepeopleisthatofdailylifeandthethingsthathappentothemarenormaladventuresandaccidents;theyfallinlove,marry,work,fail,succeed,anddie.Butoftheirdeeperemotionsandoftherelationsoftheselittlehumanbeingstotheearthandtothestars,MrLawrencemakessomethingneartopoetryandprose(散文)withoutviolatingitsproper“otherharmony”.
