香草饼干
Asmallboyatsummercampreceivedalargepackageofhisfavoritevanillasugarbiscuitsinthemailfromhismother.Heateafewthenwascarefultoplacetherestofthemunderhisbed.Thenextday,afterlunch,hewenttohistenttogetadeliciousbiscuit.Hediscoveredthattheboxwasgoneandaskedifanybodyhadseenthemanywhere.Heimmediatelycommunicatedthisinformationtohiscampteacher.
Thatafternoontheteachersawanotherboysittingbehindatreeeatingthestolenbiscuits.“Thatyoungman,”hesaidtohimself,“mustbetaughtnottosteal.Whateverittakesforhimtopreventthishappeningagain.”
Heconsideredahelpful,newmethodandhadaconversationwiththeboy.Hereturnedtothegroupandfoundouttheboywhosebiscuitshadbeenstolen.“Billy,”hesaid,“Iknowwhostoleyourbiscuits.Willyouhelpmeteachhimalesson?
”
“Well,yes—butaren’tyougoingtopunishhim?
”askedtheboyrathersurprisedattherecentsituation.
“No,thatwouldonlymakehimhateyou,”theteachersaidwithoutdoubt.“Iwantyoutocallyourmotherandaskhertosendyouanotherboxofbiscuits.”
Theboydidastheteacheraskedandafewdayslaterreceivedanotherplasticboxofbiscuitsinthemail.
“Now,”encouragedtheteacher,“theboywhostoleyourbiscuitsisdownbythelake.Godownthereandshareyourbiscuitswithhim.”
“But,”theboysaidunderstandingthiswithdifficulty,“he’sthethief.”
“Iknow.Thismayrequiresomeofyourtrustandforyoutodoremainpatient.Butperhapsyoucanwelcomemysuggestionandadvice.Don’tbenervous.Tryit—seewhathappens.”
Halfanhourlaterthecampteacherwasgladtoseethetwocomeupthehill,arminarm,inagreement.Theboywhohadstolenthebiscuitswasinsistingongettingtheothertoaccepthisarmyknifeasatradeforthestolenbiscuits,andtheotherwasjustashonestlyrefusingthegiftfromhisnewfriend,sayingthatitmadenodifference,afewoldbiscuitsweren’tthatimportantanyway,butalifetimefriendshipdid.
译文
有个正在度夏令营的小男孩，收到他妈妈寄给他的一盒香草饼干，这可是他最爱吃的东西了。
他吃了几块，把剩下的小心翼翼地放到床下。
第二天吃完午饭，小男孩走进帐篷，准备吃一块美味的饼干。
然而，他发现放饼干的盒子不见了，他急忙问有没有人看到它。
小男孩立即就把这个消息告诉了夏令营的老师。
其实，这个下午，这位老师就看到另外一个小男孩坐在树下正吃着偷来的饼干。
这个老师自言自语道：
“必须要教会这个小男孩不可以偷东西，无论怎样，他都不可以再偷了。
”
他想到了一个可以帮助他的新办法，于是，他决定和这个小男孩谈谈。
他回到小组，找到被偷饼干的小男孩。
“比利，”他说：
“我知道是谁偷了你的饼干，你能帮我去教育他一下吗？
”
“好的，但是您不打算惩罚他吗？
”小男孩对这个情况很惊讶。
“不，那样做只会使他恨你，”老师肯定的说到：
“我想让你去给你妈妈打个电话，让她再给你寄一盒饼干。
”
这个小男孩照老师说的做了。
几天后，他又收到了一塑料盒邮寄来的饼干。
老师鼓励他说：
“现在那个偷你饼干的小男孩正坐在湖边，你去那儿，和他一起吃饼干。
”
“但是，”这个小男孩不解地说，“他是个小偷。
”
“我知道，”老实说，“这个可能既需要你信任他又需要有耐心，但是我希望你能接受老师的建议。
别紧张，去试试吧，看看会怎样。
”
半小时后，这位老师高兴地看到这两个男孩臂挽臂来到了山上，显然两个人的意见已达成了一致。
偷了饼干的小男孩执意要给这个小男孩一把军刀以此来交换他偷吃的饼干。
这个小男孩真诚地拒绝了新朋友的礼物，他说这是没有关系的，几块饼干一点都不重要，重要的是咱们建立的一生的友谊。
