OurCommunity

OneTuesdayeveninginthebeginningofthefall1996semester(学期)atShippensburgUniversity,sirenssounded.Thesesirenswerenotincelebration;theywereacrytotheuniversitythatsomethingwaswrong.Ahouse,onlyoneblockaway,wasonfire.Nineoftheuniversity’sstudentslivedthere.

Fromtheminutethewordgotoutthathelpwasneeded,itseemedlikeeveryoneshowedup.Thevictims(受灾者)ofthefirewereofferedendlessinvitationsforhousingforthenight.Theverynextday,everyonegotintogeartodotheirpartinhelpingthem.Flyers(传单)werepostedwithitemsthatwereimmediatelyneeded,justtogetthesestudentsthroughthisnextcoupleofdays.Boxesfordonations(捐赠品)andmoneyjarswereplacedineveryresidencehall(学生宿舍).
