Theburningoffossilfuelsisoneofthebest-knowncausesforglobalwarming.Themajorreasonforfossilfuelscontributingsomuchtoglobalwarmingisthereleaseofcarbonthatoccursduringtheburningoffossilfuels.Whenpeopleburnfossilfuels,theyreleaselargeamountsofcarbonbywayofthereleaseofcarbondioxide.Thecarbondioxideintheairthenleadstoglobalwarming.
Anothersourceofcarbondioxidecomesfromdeforestation.Inforeststhereisalargeamountofcarbonthatisstoredinthetreesandotherplants.Thiscarbonisoutoftheatmospherebecausethetreesconsumethecarbonfromcarbondioxide.Whenpeoplecutdowntrees,theyarefrequentlyburned.Thisburningreleasesthecarbondioxideintotheatmospherethatwasstoredinorganicmatter.Evenwhennewtreesareplanted,itcantakeuptoonehundredyearstomakeupforthecarbonthatwasreleased.Itiscommonlythoughtthatbecausetreesabsorbmorecarbondioxide,theatmosphereexperiencespositiveeffects.
