ThestudywaspublishedinTheBMJBritishmedicaljournal.Itlookedatdatafromjustover100,000Frenchadults-21percentofthemmenand79percentwomen.Theresearchersnotedhowmanysugarydrinkseachofthemhad,andfollowedthemforuptonineyears-between2009and2018.Theresearchersappraisedtheirriskforalltypesofcancer,andsomeindividualonessuchasbreast,colonandprostatecancers.
Thescientistsfoundthata100millilitersincreaseinsugarydrinkswaslinkedtoan18percentincreasedriskofoverallcanceranda22percentincreasedriskofbreastcancer.Theresearcherslookedatthosewhodrankfruityjuicesandthosewhodrankothersweetdrinks.Bothgroups,theyfound,showedahigherriskofcanceroverall.
