Theemphasisofthisperiodwillbeplacedonlisteningandspeaking.Therearealtogetherthreetextsforthestudentstolistentointhisperiod：

oneisintheStudent'sBookandtheothertwoareintheWorkbook.Thefirstone（onPage15，Listeningandspeaking）isaconversationbetweenateacherandthreeofherstudents，Lucy，PittandJack.Theyaretalkingaboutapoetrycompetition.Thestudentstalkaboutwhentheyaregoingtowritetheirpoemsandhowtheybecomeinspiredtowritepoetry.Theirdiscussionillustratesthefunctionofintention.WhilelisteningtoPart1ofthedialogueforthefirsttimethestudentsareaskedtogetsomespecificinformationaboutitandanswerfourwh－questions.Afterlisteningtothesecondpartofthedialogueforthefirsttimethestudentsareaskedtogetmoredetailedinformationandfillinthechart.Atlastthestudentsareaskedtolistentothewholepassageagainandnotedowntheexpressionsaboutintentionandplans.

Thesecondone（onPage48，Listening）isaconversationbetweenateacherandthreeofhisstudents，WuZhe，LilyandChelsea.Theyarediscussinghowtheyfeelaboutlisteningtopoetryandwritingit.Theyalsodiscusshowtheygoaboutwritingpoetry.Theteacher'sopeningquestionisanexampleofthethirdconditional.Andthethirdone（onPage53，ListeningTask）isaconversationbetweenthreestudentsabouttheirpoetryhomework.Theyaretalkingaboutthekindofpoemeachisgoingtowrite.Intheirdiscussion，thestudentsuseexpressionsofintention，thefocusfunctionoftheunit.
