Period4 ListeningandSpeaking

教学内容分析   

Theemphasisofthisperiodwillbeplacedonlisteningandspeaking.Therearealtogetherthreetextsforthestudentstolistentointhisperiod:

oneisintheStudent'sBookandtheothertwoareintheWorkbook.Thefirstone(onPage15,Listeningandspeaking)isaconversationbetweenateacherandthreeofherstudents,Lucy,PittandJack.Theyaretalkingaboutapoetrycompetition.Thestudentstalkaboutwhentheyaregoingtowritetheirpoemsandhowtheybecomeinspiredtowritepoetry.Theirdiscussionillustratesthefunctionofintention.WhilelisteningtoPart1ofthedialogueforthefirsttimethestudentsareaskedtogetsomespecificinformationaboutitandanswerfourwh-questions.Afterlisteningtothesecondpartofthedialogueforthefirsttimethestudentsareaskedtogetmoredetailedinformationandfillinthechart.Atlastthestudentsareaskedtolistentothewholepassageagainandnotedowntheexpressionsaboutintentionandplans.

Thesecondone(onPage48,Listening)isaconversationbetweenateacherandthreeofhisstudents,WuZhe,LilyandChelsea.Theyarediscussinghowtheyfeelaboutlisteningtopoetryandwritingit.Theyalsodiscusshowtheygoaboutwritingpoetry.Theteacher'sopeningquestionisanexampleofthethirdconditional.Andthethirdone(onPage53,ListeningTask)isaconversationbetweenthreestudentsabouttheirpoetryhomework.Theyaretalkingaboutthekindofpoemeachisgoingtowrite.Intheirdiscussion,thestudentsuseexpressionsofintention,thefocusfunctionoftheunit.

1.Smoothingawaylanguageproblemsifanybeforelistening.

Beforeaskingthestudentstolistentothetape,helpthemtosmoothawayanylanguageproblemssuchasnewwordsandexpressionsthattheymaynotunderstandwhilelistening.

2.Listeningforneededinformation.

Beforeaskingthestudentstolistentothetapeforthefirsttime,givethemoneortwoquestionsaboutthegeneralideaofthetextsoastoleadthestudentstoconcentrateonlyontheneededinformation.Thenaskthemtolistentothetapeforasecondorevenathirdtimeforsomespecificinformationbygivingthemsomedetailedquestionstoanswer.

3.Speakingfreelyandmakingconversations.

Atlastthestudentsmaybeaskedtogivetheirownpointsofviewandattitudestowardscertainsubjectmentionedinthetext.
