本句中nomatterwhat引导让步状语从句。
nomatter常与what/who/when/where/how/whether/which等连用,表示“无论……;不管……”。
[归纳拓展]
nomatter+what/who/where/when/how等,可以改为“what/who/where/when/how等+ever”的形式。
但是“nomatter+疑问词”只能引导让步状语从句,而“whever”不仅可以引导让步状语从句,还可以引导名词性从句。
