Theseturtlesaretheonlyseaturtlesthatliveasplanteaters.Infact,theirnamemaybearesultofwhattheyeat.Theturtlesdon’tlookgreenbuttheydohavegreenfat.Scientistslearnedthattheturtleseatgreenseaplants,whichmayturntheirfatgreen.

Between2002and2004,Bjorndalcaught44greenseaturtlesintheBahamas.Aftertestingthem,shefoundsomethingtosupportthe20-year-oldidea:

babygreenseaturtleseatmeatbeforetheyturntoadietofplants.Infact,theyeatanimalsthatliveintheopenocean.
