JohnSteinbeckwasborninSalinas,CaliforniaonFebruary27,1902.HeattendedSalinasHighSchoolbetween1915and1919.Attheageof18,hestudiedmarine(海洋的)biologyatStanfordUniversitybutheleftin1925withoutfinishinghisdegree.
