Astromicehavehittheheadlinesrecently,asateamofscientistsledbyBettyNusgens,professorofbiologyattheUniversityofLiegeinBelgium,foundthatthemicesuffereda15percentthinningoftheirskinafter91daysaboardtheInternationalSpaceStation(ISS).
ThisexperimentwaspartofawiderNASAmission(任务)calledtheMiceDrawerSystem(MDS).TheItalianSpaceAgencydevelopedthefacility,whichallowssixmicetobehoused,monitored,andautomaticallyfedandwateredaboardtheISS,amongwhichthreesurvivedduringthemission.
Themicehaveparticipatedin20separateexperiments,tostudysucheffectsasosteoporosis(骨质疏松症),anemia(贫血)andhearthealth.
