NealWusharedsomewaysweshoulddotomakeourshorttimeoflifemeaningfulonQuora,findoutwhatyouneedtodonext:
1.Makefriendsasopposedtonetworking
Yourfriendswillgoalotfurtherthantheprofessionalcontactsyoumake,especiallysinceonlyoneofthetwogroupsisinvestedinyourpersonalhappiness.
2.Becomeanexpertbylearningasmuchasyoucananddeeplyseekingoutthethingsyouarecuriousabout
Findthethingsyouenjoyandpracticetheskillsyouwanttodevelop.Ifyoucanachieveexpertisethenitwillbeeasytoobtainanaudience.
3.Volunteertohelpoutthoselessfortunate
Intheprocessyouwillgainatonofnewperspectiveandwillbetterunderstandotherpeople’srealproblems.Inasocietythatalwayslooksupward,thesepeoplearebeingforgotteneasily.
4.Becomeasindependentaspossible
Eventhoughyouworkinabigcompany,youshouldconstantlymakesmallstepstoreduceyourdependenceonyourjob.Writeabook,buildanapp,orstartasmallbusinessontheside.Releaseyourinnerentrepreneur.
5.Don’tspendtoomuchtimeworryingaboutyourpersonalbrand
Accomplishthings,andtherecognitionwillfollow.
6.Stoptreatinglifeasacompetitionanddothingsfortheirownsake
Genuineinterestshouldbewhatdrivesyoutoimproveyourself,ratherthanadesiretobeatothers.Findacommunityofpeoplewhoareinterestedinthesamethingsasyoudo,anddriveeachothertokeepimproving.
Asamanwaspassingtheelephants,hesuddenlystopped,confusedbythefactthatthesehuge creatures werebeingheldbyonlyasmallropetiedtotheirfrontleg.Nochains,nocages.Itwasobviousthattheelephantscould,atanytime,breakawayfromtheirbondsbutforsomereason,theydidnot.
Hesawatrainernearbyandaskedwhytheseanimalsjuststoodthereandmadenoattempttogetaway.“Well,”trainersaid,“whentheyareveryyoungandmuchsmallerweusethesamesizeropetotiethemand,atthatage,it’senoughtoholdthem.Astheygrowup,theyare conditioned tobelievetheycannotbreakaway.Theybelievetheropecanstillholdthem,sotheynevertrytobreakfree.”
”
Themanwasamazed.Theseanimalscouldatanytimebreakfreefromtheirbondsbutbecausetheybelievedtheycouldn’t,theywerestuckrightwheretheywere.
Liketheelephants,howmanyofusgothroughlifehangingontoabeliefthatwecannotdosomething,simplybecausewefailedatitoncebefore?
Failureispartoflearning;weshouldnevergiveupthe struggle inlife.
Andnowwecometothemostalarmingdelusionofall.
Theideathatotherpeopledon'tmatter.Theirfeelings.Theirneeds.
Imagineacavewherethoseinsideneverseetheoursideworld.
Instead, theyseeshadowsoftheirworldprojectedonawall.
Theworldtheyseeintheshadowsisnottherealworld.Butit'srealtothem.
Ifyouweretoshow themtheworldasitactuallyis,theywouldrejectitas incompreshensible .
Nowwhatif,insteadofbeinginacave,youwere outintheworld,exceptyoucouldn'tseeit.
Becauseyouweren'tlooking.Youwere onlylookingatwhatthemediahasshownyou.
Youtrustedthattheworldyousaw throughtheprisonwastherealworld.
Butthere'sadifference.
Yousee.Unliketheallegoryofthecavewherethepeoplearerealandtheshadowsarefalse,hereotherpeoplearetheshadows.
Thisisthedelusionofthenarcissistswhobelievethattheyalonearereal,thattheirfeelingsaretheonlyfeelingsthatmatterbecauseotherpeoplearejustshadows.
Andshadowsdon'tfeel,becausetheyarenotreal.
Butwhatifeveryonelivedincaves.Thannoonewouldbereal,notevenyou,unlessyouwokeuponedayandleftthecave.
Andthen,howstrangewouldtheworldlookafteralifetimeofstaringatshadows.
Haveyouevergoneonvacationandsaidtoyourself,“Icouldlivehere?
”OnatriptoJamaica,KalisaMartinentertainedthatidea—andactuallywentthroughwithit.
Itwasduringa lingering and nasty NewYorkCitywinterinMarch2014.MartinandherboyfriendJeffBelizairedecidedtoescapethesnowbytakingalast-minutegetawaytoJamaica.

ButtherewassomethingaboutthattripthatspoketoMartin— profoundly.
“Thatlongweekend,theideaoftheB&Bconceptcameupandwethought,‘Whynot?
’Itcouldhappen,anditcouldhappenrighthereinJamaica,”said30-year-oldMartin.“Thatwasthefirsttimeweseriouslyconsideredtheidea.”

“Weranawayfromthecoldandthetypical9-5tofollowourdreamsandcreatethisnewlife,”saysMartin.
Andthisisn’tyouraveragebed-and-breakfast.TheRunawayJamaicaisthefirstsuccessfullyfundedB&BonKickstarter.Backersdonatedalmost$47,000tohelpbringthepropertytolife.
Ofcourse,therearealotofthingsyoushoulddoinyour20s.
