摘要:
英语习语透露着英语国家的独特社会文化气息,然而对英语习语的翻译长久以来便是译者们心中的难题一件,自从翻译目的论出世以来,大量研究表示这是习语翻译的新贵,非常适合用于习语翻译的表达, 作者将会在这篇文章中介绍翻译目的论,英语习语,以及对习语翻译的新探索,并提出以歇后语为主体的翻译方法,这都符合目的论以目的为中心法则的要求。

.TheCharacteristicsOfEnglishIdioms
Accordingtostatistics,therearemorethanfivethousandidiomsincontemporaryEnglish,ofwhichmorethanfourthousandiswidelyusedinourdailylife.AsaspecialgroupintheEnglishlanguage,Idiomshasitsowncharmandcharacteristics.
A.Theintegrityofthestructurestabilityandmeaning
Firstofall,theformationofEnglishidiomsisdifferentfromtraditionalgrammarhabits,forexample,Likecureslike,diamondcutdiamond.Secondly,Idiomsusuallycannotcasuallyaddorreducewordsandchangetheorder,eithercan'tbeinthesamecomponentreplacement.Suchas,tocallonenames,astitchintimesavesnine,inthesameboat,theunderlinedwordcan’tbereplacedas”onenames,one,ship”.Moreover,themeaningofEnglishidiomsisnotasimpleadditionofeachword,can’tbetranslatedtothetargetlanguagemechanically,forexample,blacksheep,toshowthewhitefeather,toloseone’shead,theirmeaningsarenotthewaytheylooklike,butsocialresidue,weaknessandloseone’smind.
B.Diversifiedexpressionandrhetoricmethods
ItisrichinexpressionintheformofEnglishidiom,includingphrases,simplesentences,andcomplexsentenceswithclause.Suchas“atallorder,theEmperor’sthenewclothes,allatsea“belongtophrases,“Hasthecatgotyourtongue?
Anolddogwillnotlearnnewtricks”belongtosimplesentence.“FiddlewhileRomeburns,Crossabridgewhenonecomestoit”belongtocomplexsentence.
TherearediverserhetoricaldeviceinEnglishIdioms,whichmakethemeaningsofidiomsmorevivid,it’sthemostobviouscharacteridiomsdifferentfromotherlanguageforms.Forexample,“givemeahand”usedthesynecdoche,“whenshewasyoung,shewasanuglyduck,butnowsheisabeautifullady,sheistheappleofhiseyes”usedmetaphorasitsrhetoricaldevice.
C.SocialculturalbackgroundbehindEnglishidioms
EachidiomisamirrorofthenationalsocialcultureofEnglishspeakingcountries,theyarelocalpeople'spreciouswealthcreatedandaccumulatedoveralongperiodoftime.ThemajorityofEnglishidiomscomefromTheBible,dramaticworksbyShakespeare,Aesop'sFables,AncientGreekandRomanmythsandlegends.Forexample,“separatethesheepfromthegoats”comesfromtheBible,“poundofflesh”comesfromShakespeare’sworkTheMerchantofVenice,“tobellthecat”comesfromAesop’sFables.
Thefinaldestinationoftranslationiscompletingthetransformationbetweenlocallanguageandtargetlanguageincontentandinformationaccurately.Howdotranslatorsreachthisgoal?
Thefirststepisacompleteunderstandingoftheoriginalsentences,whileassociatedwiththelanguageoftheculturalbackgroundknowledgeandgreatlyaffectstheirunderstandingofEnglishidiomsandexpressions.Iftranslatorsdon’tunderstandtherelatedculturalbackgroundknowledge,andtheytranslatewithonlyvocabularyandgrammarknowledge,thuscouldn’tmakeperfecttranslationaboutidioms,orevenmakejokes.Whencommunicatingwithanotherlanguageindifferentculture,idiomscouldbedividedintothreerelationshipsfromculturalcharacteristics,correspondingrelationship,semi-correspondingrelationshipandnon-correspondingrelationship.
1.Correspondingrelationship
