Mozartwasafascinatingmusicianandcomposerwhosefamecontinuestogrowmorethantwocenturiesafterhisdeath.HewasborninSalzburg,Austria,in1756.Beforetheageoffour,hehadshowngreatmusicaltalent.Hisfatherthendecidedtolethimstarttakingharpsichordlessons.Theboy’sreputationasamusicaltalentgrewfast.Atfive,hewascomposingmusic.Formthattimeon,Mozartwasperformingnrtsandwritingmusic.Byhisarlyteens,hehadmasteredthepiano,violinandharpsichord,andwaswritingsymphoniesandoperas.HisfirstmajoroperawasperformedinMilanin1770,whenhewasonlyfourteen.Atfifteen,MozartbecametheconductorforanorchestrainSalzburg.In1781,heleftfrVienna,wherehewasingreatdemandasbothaperformerandacompositiontesfirstoperawasasuccess.Butlifewasnoteasybecausehewasapoorbusinessman,andhisfinanceswerealwaysinabadstate.Hismusicfromthenextdecadewasnotverypopular,andheeventuallyfellbackonhisteachingjobsforaliving.In1788hestoppedperforminginpingonlytocompose.Hediedin1791attheageofthirty-five.Althoughhelivedonlyashortlife,hecomposedover600works.
