Afterthemusicstartedplaying,participantsperformedvarioustasksthattestedtheircreativethinking.Participantswhocameupwiththemostoriginalandusefulsolutionstoataskscoredhigherindivergent(发散的)creativity,whileparticipantswhocameupwiththesinglebestpossiblesolutiontoataskscoredhigherinconvergent(聚合的)creativity.

Theresearchersfoundthatlisteningtohappymusic,whichtheydefineasclassicalmusicthatispositiveandhighinencouragement,promotesmoredifferentcreativethinkingcomparedtosilence.Itisshownthatthechangesinvolvedinthehappymusicsituationmayimproveflexibilityinthinking.Asaresult,additionalsolutionsmightbeconsideredbytheparticipants,whichmaynothaveoccurredtothemreadilyiftheywereperformingthetaskinsilence.

Thisstudyshowsthatcreativeabilitymaybeimprovedthroughhappymusic,andfurtherresearchcouldexplorehowdifferentsoundsaffectcreativityanditincludesparticipantsofdifferentcultures,agegroupsandlevelsofmusicexperience.Theresearcherssaytheirstudyisuseful,showingthatlisteningtohappymusiccouldpromotecreativethinkingininexpensiveandefficientwaysinvariousscientific,educationalandorganizationalsettings.
